Prior to their relocation to Albania, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MEK\u00a0<\/a>members were in Camp Liberty, Iraq, where they were repeatedly attacked by\u00a0the Iranian regime and suffered an\u00a0inhumane medical siege.\u00a0Before being relocated to Camp Liberty, the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MEK\u00a0<\/a>members were at their 30-year home, Camp Ashraf. Yet, in 2009, when the United States withdrew its forces from Iraq, it handed MEK\u2019s security to\u00a0the Iraqi government,\u00a0led by Prime Minister Nouri-al Maliki, an agent of\u00a0the Iranian regime. Maliki immediately imposed a\u00a0medical blockade on Ashraf and attacked\u00a0the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MEK\u00a0<\/a>members\u00a0several times,\u00a0despite\u00a0the fact that\u00a0they had\u00a0protected person status\u00a0under the 4th\u00a0Geneva Convention.\u00a0Maliki forced the MEK members to\u00a0be relocated to\u00a0Camp Liberty,\u00a0a\u00a0much smaller camp\u00a0where they could be easily targeted\u00a0with missiles. The regime\u2019s plan was\u00a0to either massacre all the MEK members in Iraq or force them to succumb, via imposing harsh living conditions on them,\u00a0to the\u00a0ruling theocracy in Iran. Yet, this plan failed\u00a0due\u00a0to the MEK members\u2019 steadfastness and\u00a0an international campaign led by Mrs.\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/maryam-rajavi\/14237-maryam-rajavi\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the president-elect of<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0the National Council of resistance of\u00a0<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iran<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0help of\u00a0renowned personalities;\u00a0and,\u00a0of course,\u00a0Albania\u2019s leading role in accepting the MEK members.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Other European countries must learn from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Albania?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Albania<\/a>.
