Regime Has Not Taken Any Action \" \/><\/p>\n<p><small><strong>Lack of assistance to the deprived people of the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan by the Iranian regime caused extensive damage to these areas in the flood of early January.<\/strong><\/small><\/p>\n<p>Written by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/component\/contact\/contact\/9?Itemid=490\">Shamsi Saadati<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a024 January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>For almost two weeks,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/157-human-rights\/27242-floods-ravage-southeast-iran-killing-4-people\">floods<\/a>\u00a0have devastated\u00a0the poverty-stricken province of Sistan and Baluchestan in southeast Iran, causing an estimated one billion dollars worth of damage, with the local people not even able to afford food and water.<\/p>\n<p>Many are suffering from more dire weather conditions, like severe mist, freezing temperatures, and snowfall. Some are even taking shelter in trees to avoid floodwaters.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1217811952401108993<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the Iranian Regime has seen fit to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/iran-sistan-baluchestan-flood-20200123\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">divert<\/a>\u00a0millions of dollars to terrorists rather than the people of the region.\u00a0The regime\u2019s supreme leader,\u00a0Ali Khamenei,\u00a0spent over $600,000 for the funeral of terrorist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/27175-who-was-the-vicious-criminal-qassem-soleimani\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Qassem Soleimani<\/a>, while the Iranian parliament sent $220m from the National Development Fund to the terrorist Quds forces.<\/p>\n<p>Eight days after the floods hit, the\u00a0regime\u2019s president\u00a0Hassan Rouhani\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/iran-sistan-baluchistan-hassan-rouhani-flood-20200119\">visited<\/a>\u00a0the province, where\u00a0he became the subject of local ire\u00a0because the regime was doing nothing to help the people.<\/p>\n<p>One local said: \u201cThere are no water purification centers here, no plumbing. Whatever facilities there are have been built thirty years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reports say that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40% of houses in the province were destroyed<\/li>\n<li>At least 20,000 homes have suffered over 20% damages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>870 villages are still cut off from each other because of road and bridges being underwater or damaged<\/li>\n<li>The agriculture sector has suffered $100m, with livestock having died and fruit gardens sunk under mud<\/li>\n<li>Thousands of people have been displaced<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/157-human-rights\/27242-floods-ravage-southeast-iran-killing-4-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0floods\u00a0<\/a>were caused by heavy rainfall in southern Iran, particularly in the Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman provinces, but the majority of the damage\u00a0could have been avoided.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mojahedineng\/status\/1218580158677864449<\/p>\n<p>Resalat state-run newspaper wrote on January 18 that the General Manager of Meteorology had repeatedly warned authorities about the overflow of dams, but the local Water Organization did not empty the dams, leading to their overthrow.<\/p>\n<p>While Iranian regime state-run website Khabar Fori wrote on January 20: \u201cAnalysis shows that overflow of four dams in flood-affected areas of Sistan and Baluchestan and the negligence in watershed management projects played a major role in the damage increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They quoted a regime\u2019s member of the High Council of Provinces, Shahbakhsh Goorgij, as saying: \u201cIn 2007-2008, the Guno Storm destroyed the region\u2019s dam. While the dam could be reconstructed in a week, but the government has not repaired it after 13 years.
