The entities targeted today facilitate Iran\u2019s petrochemical and petroleum exports in contravention of U.S. economic sanctions,\u201d read the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIran\u2019s petrochemical and petroleum sectors are primary sources of funding for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/26834-only-way-to-confront-iran-regime-s-hostage-taking-and-terrorism-is-supporting-regime-change-prof-ivan-sascha-sheehan\">Iranian regime\u2019s global terrorist activities<\/a>\u00a0and enable its persistent use of violence against its own people,\u201d said\u00a0U.S.\u00a0Secretary\u00a0of\u00a0Treasury\u00a0Steven\u00a0Mnuchin.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1125670419946717185<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s action follows on the heels of similar actions that have targeted key sources of funding for Iranian regional adventurism, including a recent action targeting the Iranian metals sector. Also, in June 2019, OFAC designated Iran\u2019s largest petrochemical holding group, Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC), for providing financial support to U.S.-designated Khatam al-Anbya Construction Headquarters, the engineering conglomerate of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).\u00a0 In addition to PGPIC, OFAC designated PGPIC\u2019s vast network of 39 subsidiary petrochemical companies and foreign-based sales agents,\u201d read the statement.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1036970052921253888<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s\u00a0sanctions\u00a0target Triliance Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (Triliance), a Hong Kong-based broker with branches in Iran, United Arab Emirates, China, and Germany, as well as, Triliance Kish Petrochemical Company, which is the Iran-based branch of Triliance\u00a0and\u00a0recently changed its name and operates as Tiba Parsian Kish Petrochemical.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll property and interests in property of these persons designated today subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them.\u00a0 In addition, foreign financial institutions that knowingly facilitate significant transactions for, or persons that provide material or certain other support to, the persons designated today risk exposure to sanctions that could sever their access to the U.S. financial system or block their property and interests in property under U.S. jurisdiction,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Treasury department (OFAC) imosed new sanctions on the petrochemical industry in Iran-January 23, 2020 Written by&nbsp;Sedighe Shahrokhi&nbsp;on&nbsp;23 January 2020.
