These protests are against corrupt politicians who have been leading one of the wealthiest nations in the Middle East to absolute devastation.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The main goal of the protests is to free their country and to end the Iranian regime\u2019s deadly meddling in Iraq. For years the Iranian regime described Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon as its strategic depth. Now after the elimination of its Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force commander, Qassem Soleimani, and the continuous protests in Iraq, particularly in the southern provinces of Iraq with the absolute Shiite-majority population, the regime\u2019s strategic depth is about to collapse.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IraqProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IraqProtests<\/a>: Links, Roots, and Perspectives <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/TkrqYryAjP\">https:\/\/t.co\/TkrqYryAjP<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FreeAllProtesters?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FreeAllProtesters<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/StopIranBloodshed?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StopIranBloodshed<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1201844310594985986?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 3, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These protests continue in Iraq simultaneously with nationwide Iran protests which have shaken the regime\u2019s pillars of existence.<\/p>\n<p>AFP reported on January 22: \u201cRoads were cut, and government offices closed across the Shiite-majority south too, including the holy city of Najaf and the cities of Al-Hillah and Diwaniyah.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iraq?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iraq<\/a><br \/>Brave Iraqi students protest <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>&#39;s meddling in their country.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7mslOtGwBo\">pic.twitter.com\/7mslOtGwBo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; People&#39;s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) (@Mojahedineng) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mojahedineng\/status\/1219718358666362880?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Since its foundation in 1979, the Iranian regime has been based on two pillars: domestic oppression and export of terrorism and chaos abroad.\u00a0 A country like Iraq, with the Shiite-majority population, was the regime\u2019s first target in its campaign to impose its hegemony over neighboring countries. For this reason, Ruhollah Khomeini, the regime\u2019s founder, continued the Iran-Iraq war for eight long years.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. invasion of Iraq paved the way for the Iranian regime to secretly occupy Iraq.\u00a0 The Iranian regime\u2019s ambassador to Iraq,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/26875-brigadier-general-iraj-masjedi-khamenei-s-secret-governor-of-iraq-suppresses-popular-uprising-in-the-guise-of-iranian-ambassador\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iraj Masjedi<\/a>, has been acting as Iraq\u2019s secret governor. They have also repeatedly attacked the regime\u2019s consulates in the southern cities of Basra and Najaf.<\/p>\n<p>As the protests escalated in Iraq, the Iranian regime tried different tactics to control the situation.<\/p>\n<p>First, it wanted to divert the protests toward the U.S. and cause rifts among the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, the regime wanted to exhaust and intimidate the protesters by making hollow promises and wasting time on the one hand and attacking and killing protesters on the other. The increased awareness of the Iraqi people and parallel uprisings in Lebanon and Iran are among the main causes of the regime\u2019s waning power in this country.
