Now, those arrested are at risk of torture and other ill-treatment. Act now and call for their release.\u201d<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/amnesty\/status\/1218152756025929730<\/p>\n<p>According to reports published by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">-Khalq\u00a0or\u00a0MEK<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">)<\/a>, the Iranian regime killed at least 1500 protesters\u00a0in November. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MEK\u00a0<\/a>has so far\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-protests\/27253-names-of-20-more-martyrs-of-the-nationwide-uprising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">identified 724 martyrs<\/a>. In addition to those killed during the Iran protests, over 12000\u00a0protesters were\u00a0arrested and 4,000 injured by the state security forces.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1218885974631030785<\/p>\n<p>Mrs.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/maryam-rajavi\/14237-maryam-rajavi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a>,\u00a0has repeatedly urged the international community,\u00a0particularly the UN,\u00a0to dispatch a fact-finding mission to Iran to investigate the conditions of death and injury of protesters in November and visit Iranian prisons and prisoners.<br \/>\n<br \/>https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1218872635033096193<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the regime\u2019s arbitrary arrests of protesters Amnesty International wrote:\u00a0\u201cIranian authorities continued the crackdown by arresting thousands of protesters as well as journalists, students, and human rights defenders to stop them from speaking out about Iran\u2019s ruthless repression. have been subjected to torture and other ill-treatment; they have been beaten, punched, kicked and flogged. Many are being denied access to their families and lawyers. Children as young as 15 have been arrested and detained alongside adults in prisons notorious for torture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/27263-iran-protests-un-experts-should-have-immediate-access-to-detention-centers-in-iran-amnesty-international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">second wave of protests\u00a0<\/a>which erupted On January 11, after the regime admitted to shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing 176 innocent people aboard, Amnesty wrote:\u00a0\u201cOn 11 and 12 January 2020, security forces used unlawful force against peaceful protesters who gathered across Iran to hold vigils and protests demanding accountability after the authorities admitted shooting down a Ukrainian passenger plane on 8 January, killing all 176 onboard. Security forces beat protesters with batons and used pointed pellets, rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray against them. Some injured protesters, including those with painful wounds, have not sought hospital treatment for fear of arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During these protests in at least 19 provinces, Iranian people and students chanted:\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1,500 died in November<\/a>.\u201d The protesters also demanded the release of those arrested during the November uprising.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0its\u00a0action, Amnesty called on the Iranian regime to \u201cImmediately and unconditionally release all those detained arbitrarily,\u201d and \u201cRespect protesters\u2019 rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.\u201d It also demanded\u00a0that \u201cUN experts are given immediate access to detention centers and prisons and to families of those killed and arrested in order to conduct fact-finding investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amnesty International: Take Action to Release Iranian Protesters Written by&nbsp;Mansoureh Galestan&nbsp;on&nbsp;21 January 2020.
