NCRI –\u00a0Many of the prohibitions that Iranian women are facing are considered bizarre and odd by their counterparts in many other countries. The bans have been changed over time and sometimes become more intense. Let\u2019s get familiar with some of these bans.<\/p>\n
Deutsche Welle Farsi has collected and published in a report a list of strange prohibitions for Iranian women in Iran as the followings:<\/p>\n
Cycling is prohibited for women<\/strong><\/p>\n One of the latest prohibitions Iranian women are facing is a ban on bike riding. Recently, Ali Khamenei, Iranian regime\u2019s supreme leader, answering a question on women\u2019s cycling said: \u201cWomen\u2019s cycling in public places and also in places where they are visible to strangers is forbidden.\u201d<\/p>\n Women selfies with footballers is prohibited<\/strong><\/p>\n After some Iranian women published in social networks their selfies with famous footballers in the recent years, the Iranian regime\u2019s so-called \u201cethics committee\u201d announced: \u201cWomen taking selfi photos [with male footballers] is prohibited.\u201d<\/p>\n Employment of women in coffee shops is prohibited<\/strong><\/p>\n In Iran, women are not allowed to work in some fields. In the latest example of such instance, Iranian Police announced: \u201cWomen\u2019s employment in coffee shops (caf\u00e9s) and coffeehouses is prohibited.\u201d<\/p>\n Iranian women are not allowed to wear boots on pants <\/strong><\/p>\n Iranian police, in line with their \u201cwinter combat (against mal-veiling)\u201d plan, have announced that women are prohibited from wearing boots on pants.<\/p>\n Using hat or cap instead of scarf (veil) by women is prohibited<\/strong><\/p>\n Iranian police also prohibited women from using hats instead of scarves or veils and announced: \u201cThose women who use hats (as a veil) instead of head scarves and wear tight and short winter coats will be dealt with.\u201d<\/p>\n Women are prohibited swimming while wearing maillot or \u201cswimming suit\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n In Iran under the rule of mullahs, women are not allowed to wear swimsuit for swimming in front of \u201cstranger men.\u201d<\/p>\n Women are barred from going on stage<\/strong><\/p>\n According to Sharq newspaper, \u201cWomen musicians and performers in 13 provinces in Iran are not allowed to go on the stage for musical performance [playing musical instruments or singing, etc.].\u201d<\/p>\n Women are not allowed to enter sport stadiums <\/strong><\/p>\n In Iran [under the rule of mullahs], women are not allowed to enter sport stadiums such as football or volleyball stadiums when men are playing matches.<\/p>\n Women are not allowed to go to men\u2019s section of Metro (Subway) or Bus<\/strong><\/p>\n A small section of the buses and subways in Iran is allocated to women and they are not allowed to sit in the men\u2019s section which is much bigger [even if women\u2019s section is full and men\u2019s section is empty].<\/p>\n Wearing Support (legging) is prohibited for women<\/strong><\/p>\n The Iranian regime\u2019s police have in recent years prohibited women from wearing Support (or leggings).<\/p>\n Women are not allowed to let their hair come out of either or both sides of their scarf or veil<\/strong><\/p>\n The Iranian regime\u2019s Police and Security forces have announced: \u201cIn the discussion on scarf and veil there is a point. Some people (women) think that if their hair is not shown from both sides of scarf but let their hair come out (and be seen) from one side of the scarf, this is not an instance of mal-veiling. In response, they should be told that changing the type of hairdressing is not applicable (the same) as fixed veiling (i.e. is not acceptable as proper veiling).\u201d<\/p>\n Female students are prohibited to go camping with men<\/strong><\/p>\n State-run Iranian media published an overview of the students mixed (gender) camping in the city of Jiroft as an example of non-compliance with \u201cIslamic values\u201d and a taboo.<\/p>\n Any contraceptive surgery is prohibited for women<\/strong><\/p>\n In line with the Iran Regime\u2019s policy to encourage population growth, any surgical procedure to prevent pregnancy is prohibited (for women) in Iran. In addition, publicity and advertising about contraception is also prohibited.<\/p>\n Women\u2019s entry into coffeehouse and providing hookah to women is prohibited <\/strong><\/p>\n According to the Union of coffeehouse (caf\u00e9) and traditional table houses, women\u2019s entry into regular coffeehouses is \u201cillegal\u201d and the traditional coffee – and table – houses are \u201cnot authorized\u201d to provide hookah to women.<\/p>\n Divorce at the request of women is not allowed<\/strong><\/p>\n In Iran under the rule of mullahs, only men have the right to divorce, except in exceptional cases. So, normally women do not have the right and are not allowed to divorce their husband even if a woman does not agree with her husband.<\/p>\n Iranian women are prohibited marrying non-Muslim men\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n According to Iranian regime\u2019s laws, Iranian women are not allowed to marry non-Muslim men. However, Iranian men are allowed to marry non-Muslim \u201cPeople of the Books\u201d such as Christians and Jews.<\/p>\n Women are not allowed to obtain a passport or travel abroad without husband’s permission <\/strong><\/p>\n According to Iranian regime\u2019s law, Iranian women are not allowed to obtain a passport or travel abroad without getting permission from their husband or legal male guardian.<\/p>\n Wearing manteau (coat) with writing on its back is prohibited for women<\/strong><\/p>\n After the media affiliated with the Iranian regime’s hardline faction criticized the release of \u201cWomen\u2019s manteau (coat) with writing on its back\u201d in Iran, Iranian police has announced plans to deal with the importers of these women\u2019s coats.\u00a0<\/p>\n Holding track and field competition for women wearing internationally recognized clothing for this sport such as shorts and short-sleeve T-shirts is prohibited. <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2026 No explanation needed.<\/p>\n Iranian women are banned from education in some academic fields<\/strong><\/p>\n In recent years, Iranian regime’s oil minister announced: \u201cEducation of women in the field of operations such as drilling and processing and so on that require (physical) activities in operational areas and sites is useless and these are\u00a0 masculine (men\u2019s) jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" NCRI – Many of the prohibitions that Iranian women are facing are considered bizarre and odd by their counterparts in many other countries.
