He was arrested among thousands of other during the nationwide Iran protests in\u00a0mid-November and had gone through severe torture ever since.\u00a0As the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Council\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">of Resistance of Iran\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(NCRI)<\/a>\u00a0and human rights groups such as Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM) reported, the Iranian regime\u2019s security forces have used\u00a0various forms of torture against those arrested during the Iran protests. These tortures\u00a0include\u00a0beating, flogging,\u00a0scalding with hot water and sexual assaults.\u00a0During the nationwide Iran protests over 12,000 people were arrested. Thousands of those arrested were detained at the notorious Great Tehran\u00a0Penitentiary\u00a0or\u00a0Fashafoye\u00a0Prison.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mehran Alipour, a young protester detained during Nov. 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IranProtests?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IranProtests<\/a>, died after two months of torture on Feb. 9 in Isfahan, central <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>. He died as a result of severe blows to his head and other body parts. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iranians?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iranians<\/a> will neither forget nor forgive. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/J41ccrhaSp\">pic.twitter.com\/J41ccrhaSp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Iran News Wire (@IranNW) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IranNW\/status\/1227537874767073281?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 12, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This prison lacks the minimum facilities,\u00a0and\u00a0security forces use torture\u00a0to\u00a0break prisoners\u2019\u00a0spirit. New reports\u00a0confirm\u00a0that due to the lack of\u00a0sanitation,\u00a0tuberculosis\u00a0has spread among prisoner,\u00a0and over 40 of them are infected. Yet prison authorities have refused to take\u00a0the necessary measures.<\/p>\n<p>On February 12, Iran HRM reported\u00a0that two prisoners were hanged\u00a0at dawn\u00a0in\u00a0Adelabad\u00a0Prison of Shiraz.\u00a0They were identified as\u00a0Hadi\u00a0Mahi and\u00a0Sadeq\u00a0Akbarpour. They\u00a0were arrested in 2016 and subsequently sentenced to death.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/alternative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCRI<\/a>,\u00a0simultaneous with the anniversary of the anti-monarchic revolution and\u00a0in the run-up to\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s\u00a0sham parliamentary elections, the\u00a0security forces have\u00a0rearrested\u00a0former\u00a0political prisoners and supporters of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>\u00a0in Tehran and other cities\u00a0en\u00a0masse.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-resistance\/27371-iran-mass-arrest-of-mek-supporters-former-political-prisoners-on-anniversary-of-the-1979-anti-monarchic-revolution-on-eve-of-sham-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCRI statement on\u00a0February 11\u00a0stated<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cOn February 8, the Intelligence Ministry arrested former political prisoners, Majid\u00a0Mowtab, 59, Majid\u00a0Zabihi, 55, Hassan\u00a0Tarvardian, 61, Reza\u00a0Qoli\u00a0Shirmohammadi, 65, and his 25-year-old son, Yasser\u00a0Shirmohammadi, and took them to the Ministry\u2019s prison in Tabriz, northwest Iran. The first four were imprisoned for several years in the 1980s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn\u00a0Zanjan, Ali\u00a0Osanlou, 57, and his two sons,\u00a0Morteza, 30, and Hamid, 24, were arrested on January 28. Last week, Mahmoud\u00a0Yousefi\u00a0and Mohammad Ali\u00a0Karnama\u00a0were arrested in\u00a0Behshahr\u00a0and\u00a0Rostamkolah\u00a0respectively. The court examining Eskandar Lotfi\u2019s charges convened on January 27, 2020.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">To crack down on teachers\u2019 nationwide protests in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iran?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iran<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Iranian?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Iranian<\/a> regime has been arresting and convicting activist teachers. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JSKJbPD1is\">https:\/\/t.co\/JSKJbPD1is<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IRAN HRM (@IranHrm) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IranHrm\/status\/1227889599151845376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 13, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to Iran HRM,\u00a0three other activist teachers, members of the board of directors of the Teachers\u2019 Union in Qazvin Province, were ordered to pay fines.<\/p>\n<p>As human rights violations continue in Iran,\u00a0there\u00a0is an urgent need\u00a0for\u00a0the International community to take immediate action by sending a fact-finding mission to Iran, particularly to the Iranian prisons, in order to\u00a0prevent further human rights abuses of the Iranian regime against\u00a0political prisoners.
