The FATF blacklist amidst various economic and social crises has dangerous consequences for the mullahs’ regime.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Iranian regime was placed on the blacklist<\/a> of the\u00a0<\/span>Fi<\/span>nancial Action Task Force (FATF)<\/span>\u00a0on Friday, after th<\/span>ree years of extending the deadline.\u00a0<\/span>This will have serious economic and political\u00a0<\/span>effect on<\/span>\u00a0the regime<\/span>, particularly after\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>major failure\u00a0<\/span>of its\u00a0<\/span>sham parliamentary election which was\u00a0<\/span>met by a general boycott.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Among the consequences of the FATF\u2019s decision is\u00a0<\/span>the decrease of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>country\u2019s foreign exchange earnings<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>access to foreign currency resources will become more difficult which would in turn lead to an increase in the exchange rate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result, the USD trades at more than 15,<\/span>7<\/span>00\u00a0<\/span>rials<\/span>\u00a0from 14,600\u00a0rials.\u00a0<\/span>The FATF decisions is due to the regime\u2019s non-compliance with the anti-terrorism funding norms.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision comes after more than three years of warnings from the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) urging Tehran to enact terrorist financing conventions,\u201d Reuters reported.<\/span><\/p>\n

The FATF, which oversees the security of the global financial system and sets banking transaction standards, had given the Iranian regime until February to finalize the laws that will allow the country to join the Palermo and Counter Financing Terrorism (CFT) conventions against funding terrorism and money laundering.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the United States withdrawal from the Iran 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Actions (JCPOA<\/a>)<\/span>, citing the regime\u2019s non-compliance\u00a0<\/span>and malign behavior<\/span>, the regime ha<\/span>d been clinging to the European\u00a0<\/span>c<\/span>ountries and\u00a0<\/span>its traditional allies, Russia and China. The regime was very much hoping\u00a0<\/span>to start the EU financial\u00a0<\/span>mechanism, known as the INSTEX, but the EU cou<\/span>ntries had conditioned\u00a0<\/span>any further economic exchange with Iran\u00a0<\/span>to the adoption of the FATF\u2019s conventions.\u00a0<\/span>Russia and China also earlier told the regime that\u00a0<\/span>their banks will face difficulties in dealing with Iran if<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>CFT and Palermo are not adopted. In a nutshell, under the crushing international sanctions regime had\u00a0<\/span>should have adopted these conventions.\u00a0<\/span>The regime’s most significant problem with adopting the CFT\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0obstacles that CFT imposes on the clerical regime in its support of terrorist groups.<\/span>\u00a0This included the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a> which is on the U.S.\u00a0<\/span>State Department\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>list of\u00a0<\/span>foreign\u00a0<\/span>terrorist organizations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that the FATF has\u00a0<\/span>backlisted<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Iranian regime,\u00a0<\/span>financial exchanges with this regime will become more difficult, with international banks and financial institutions more likely than ever before to be under surveillance and pressure to counter Iran\u2019s money laundering and financing of terrorism.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran\u2019s FATF blacklisting will force all countries to comply with the FATF recommendations<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>hese recommendations will force banks and financial institutions in different countries to stop working with Iranian companies and banks. They also advise companies that deal with the regime to stop working with Iran.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi,<\/a> the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a>, said:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Backlisting the clerical regime is indispensable to combatting terrorism and warmongering in the Middle East and across the globe.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The mullahs consciously and deliberately violated Palermo and CFT and refused to accept FATF in a bid to continue to finance terrorism and belligerence and circumvent the sanctions<\/span>,\u201d added Mrs. Rajavi.<\/span><\/p>\n
