Iran Regime\u2019s Parliamentary Elections, a Major Failure for Khamenei<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Iranian regime\u2019s sham parliamentary elections<\/a>, held\u00a0<\/span>on Friday<\/span>, was\u00a0<\/span>met with an unprecedented\u00a0<\/span>general boycott. This boycott thwarted\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>egime\u2019s attempts to legitimize its rule and maintain its\u00a0<\/span>absurd<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>democratic fa<\/span>c<\/span>ade.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

After two days of utter confusion<\/span>\u00a0while fabricati<\/span>ng<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>figures and statistics,\u00a0<\/span>Abdolreza<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Rahmani<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fazli<\/span>, the regime\u2019s Minister of Interior, announced that\u00a0<\/span>42.5 percent had voted in the sham parliamentary election. Even this completely bogus figure shows a\u00a0<\/span>2<\/span>0 percent drop relative\u00a0<\/span>to the 2016 election.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Given the political situation and such issues as the crash of the (Ukrainian) airliner<\/a>, the incidents in\u00a0<\/span>November and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>January,<\/span>\u00a0and other these circumstances, this level of presence and participation by the people is totally acceptable<\/span>,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite his shameless effort\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>present\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>bogus\u00a0<\/span>elections<\/span>\u00a0of a medieval regime\u00a0<\/span>as a real democratic procedure<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Rahmani<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fazli\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0remarks\u00a0<\/span>confirm the Iranian people\u2019s utter hatred\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>this regime.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This boycott was a positive answer to the call made by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the president-elect of the National Council of Resi<\/a><\/span>stance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><\/a>. \u201cThe Iranian people had cast their real vote in the November 2019 and January 2020 uprisings with chants of \u2018death to the principle of the\u00a0<\/span>velayat<\/span>-e faqih, and death to Khamenei,\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Mrs. Rajavi had said.<\/span><\/p>\n

This call was followed by various activities by the Resistance Units, a network affiliated with the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/a>. T<\/span>here were also numerous\u00a0<\/span>protests against<\/span>\u00a0the regime\u2019s sham elections, such as the one of the students\u00a0of\u00a0the University of Science and Technology of Tehran on\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday. They held banners which read: \u201cWe will neither vote, nor boycott, we will be in the streets,\u201d and \u201c<\/span>The people’s rage is the measure,\u201d (a play on the regime’s slogan: “The people’s vote is the measure”). They also paid tribute to the martyrs of the Iran protests.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the regime\u2019s brutal crackdown\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>f the nationwide Iran protests in November 2019,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>killing\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>over 1500\u00a0<\/span>protesters, and the increasing social and economic crisis, due to the regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>plundering of the national wealth to continue its\u00a0<\/span>warmongering policies in the Middle East and around the globe, the\u00a0<\/span>conflict between the people and the regime has reached an irreversible point.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While downplaying the\u00a0<\/span>coronavirus cris<\/span>i<\/span>s and<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0regime\u2019s inaction<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei tried to justify\u00a0<\/span>his<\/span>\u00a0crushing defeat<\/span>\u00a0in having a mass turnout during the elections and said:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cA collective campaign was undertaken against people\u2019s participation in the election. On social media, a variety of entities used every factor possible\u2026 Since a month, two months ago, they said this was not an election, not a real election, the Guardian Council has done this or that\u2026 And this latest illness (COVID-19) became an excuse. In other words, they did not miss the slightest opportunity and did not even waste a few hours.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite his massive purge of the rival factions\u2019 candidates,\u00a0<\/span>and while<\/span>\u00a0seeking to justify his murderous rule<\/span>, Khamenei failed to\u00a0<\/span>prevent further\u00a0<\/span>crisis\u00a0<\/span>b<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>reducing\u00a0<\/span>factional feuding and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0<\/span>holding the election\u00a0<\/span>masquerade<\/span>\u00a0with a large turnout<\/span>.\u00a0 The\u00a0<\/span>long-time<\/span>\u00a0game of so-called \u201creformists,\u00a0<\/span>hardliner<\/span>s<\/span>\u201d was rejected\u00a0<\/span>by the Iranian people who chanted during their uprising that \u201creformists<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0hardliner<\/span>s,<\/span>\u00a0the game is over.\u201d This\u00a0<\/span>m<\/span>ade it clear, especially after the Iran protests<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0for Khamenei that he\u00a0<\/span>must<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>consolidate power around\u00a0<\/span>his own faction.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More than 80 percent\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>new\u00a0<\/span>so-called members of parliament are\u00a0<\/span>Khamenei loyalists. They are\u00a0<\/span>mostly members of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0criminals involved in suppression, the export of terrorism, and warmongering. IRGC Brig. Gen. Mohammad\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Baqer<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Qalibaf<\/span><\/a>, the leading candidate from Tehran<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0is vying to\u00a0<\/span>become<\/span>\u00a0Parliament<\/span>\u00a0Speaker<\/span>. He was among the IRGC commanders\u00a0<\/span>during<\/span>\u00a0the unpatriotic Iran-Iraq war, commander of the IRGC\u2019s air force, the State Security Force, and the mayor of Tehran.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a nutshell<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>despite fabricating figures and\u00a0<\/span>taking all the necessary actions to prolong the regime\u2019s life<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the regime is doomed to be toppled by the Iranian people, who consider regime change as the only solution to the soci<\/span>o-<\/span>economic crisis.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As\u00a0<\/span>Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the\u00a0<\/span>NCRI\u2019s president-elect<\/span>\u00a0said<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>T<\/span>he figures announced by the regime, after long delay, astronomical rigging and contradictory statements, reflect a reluctant admission to defeat in the sham election.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>In boycotting this charade, more than 90 percent of the Iranian people voted for the overthrow of the ruling religious fascism and welcomed the slogan of Resistance Units that \u201cmy vote is overthrow.\u201d This crushing defeat will only aggravate the mullahs\u2019 internal feuding and their deadly impasse, expediting their overthrow by the Iranian people and Resistance<\/span>,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n
