Amnes<\/span>ty International released its annual repo<\/a><\/span>rt<\/a> over the human rights situation in the Middle East and North Africa<\/span>, calling this year\u00a0<\/span>\u201ca year of defiance,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0by the people of the Middle East<\/span>\u00a0and North Africa and\u00a0<\/span>brutal suppression of the ruling\u00a0<\/span>regimes, particularly in Iran and Iraq.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn an inspiring display of defiance and determination, crowds from Algeria, to Iran, Iraq and Lebanon poured into the streets \u2013 in many cases risking their lives \u2013 to demand their human rights, dignity and social justice and an end to corruption. These protesters have proven that they will not be intimidated into silence by their governments,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span>Heba<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Morayef<\/span>, Amnesty International\u2019s Director for M<\/span>iddle East and North Africa<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a part of its report, Amnesty referred to the nationwide Iran protests<\/a> in November 2019, over the sudden increase of fuel price and regime<\/span>\u2019s subsequent brutal crackdown on people.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the reports published by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/a><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in the Iran protests in November\u00a0<\/span>over 1500 people were ki<\/span>lled<\/span>, 4,000 wounded and 12,000 arrested.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The #Iranian<\/a> regime has taken these measures because it fears the resurgence of the popular uprisings and increasing activities of #MEK<\/a> Resistance Units nationwide.#FreeAllProtesters<\/a>#FreeIran2020<\/a>#BoycottIranShamElections<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/7Ual8feRZ6<\/a><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime, in order to continue its deadly crackdown on people, imposed an unprecedented nationwide internet blackout which lasted for days.\u00a0<\/span>In this regard,\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>mnesty\u00a0<\/span>International wrote, \u201c<\/span>During protests in Iran, the authorities implemented a near-total internet shutdown to stop people sharing videos and photos of security forces unlawfully killing and injuring protesters.\u00a0<\/span>.<\/span>..<\/span>\u00a0In Iran social media apps including Facebook, Telegram, Twitter and YouTube remained blocked.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amnesty also\u00a0<\/span>referred to the Iraqi people\u2019s uprising<\/a> in Iraq against the systematic corruption and the Iranian regime\u2019s deadly meddling in their country.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
