D<\/span>efiant<\/span>\u00a0youth\u00a0<\/span>turned<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the last Tuesday of the Iranian Year,\u00a0<\/span>Chaharshanbe<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Suri<\/span><\/i>\u00a0(Festival of Fire)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0in Tehran and\u00a0<\/span>other\u00a0<\/span>cities<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0including Urmia, Ahvaz, Qom, Isfahan, Tabriz, Ardabil,\u00a0<\/span>Anbar<\/span>an<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Abhar<\/span>, Shiraz, Rasht, Khorramabad,\u00a0<\/span>Dezful<\/span>, Tabriz, Mashhad, Kermanshah,\u00a0<\/span>Lahijan<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Rudbar<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Qods<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>O<\/span>shnavieh,\u00a0<\/span>Mahabad<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Naghadeh<\/span>, Khash,\u00a0<\/span>Delijan<\/span>, Karaj,\u00a0<\/span>Fardis<\/span>, Shahriar,\u00a0<\/span>Dor<\/span>u<\/span>d<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Borujerd<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Tonekabon<\/span>, Semnan,\u00a0<\/span>Sabzevar<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Shahroud<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Gachsaran<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Behshahr<\/span>, Qazvin,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Ilam<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Behbahan<\/span>, Kerman, Zahedan,\u00a0<\/span>Darab<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Andimeshk<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>into scenes of p<\/span>rotests against\u00a0<\/span>the ruling\u00a0<\/span>religious fascism<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chanting \u201cKhamenei (as\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>symbol of darkness) to be place<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0in the fire\u201d and \u201cFire is the answer to fire,\u201d t<\/span>hey torched<\/span>\u00a0Khamenei’s placards, billboards<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>effigies<\/span>\u00a0of Khamenei\u00a0<\/span>as well as pictures of\u00a0<\/span>Qassem<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Soleimani<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and other<\/span>\u00a0regime<\/span>\u00a0leaders<\/span>. They also<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>targeted\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>regime\u2019s centers of repression and\u00a0<\/span>plunder\u00a0<\/span>in various\u00a0<\/span>cities\u00a0<\/span>around the country<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Flames could be\u00a0<\/span>seen,<\/span>\u00a0and fire<\/span>crackers could be heard<\/span>\u00a0all night<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in Urmia<\/span>, in East Azerbaijan Province.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On March 9, 2020, t<\/span>he Mujahedin-e Khalq<\/span>\u00a0(MEK<\/a>)<\/span>\u00a0Social\u00a0<\/span>Headquarter inside Iran had called on the rebellious youth<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>rise<\/span>\u00a0on the occasion of the Fire-fest\u00a0<\/span>as part of\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0campaign to overthrow the\u00a0<\/span>religious theocracy ruling Iran<\/span>\u00a0by torching pictures, banners and effigies of\u00a0<\/span>Khomeini, Khamenei, and Rouhani<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tonight’s uprising\u00a0<\/span>was undertaken despite the regime\u2019s frenzied mobilizatio<\/span>n to prevent the protests and uprising.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The repressive State Security Forces had warned all its units that,\u00a0<\/span>“…\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0opposition groups are\u00a0<\/span>exploiting<\/span>\u00a0such ceremonies to their advantage … Given the likelihood of\u00a0<\/span>protests related to the Coronavirus issue, it\u2019s likely that they can use the circumstance<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and to mobilize this into protests.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday, March 16, the Greater Tehran\u2019s State Security Force (SSF) commander Hossein Rahimi said: \u201cFour garrisons,\u00a0<\/span>Fajr<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Fat\u2019h<\/span>, Nasr and Ramazan have been set up and police forces are fully prepared in the form of 1,450 motorized and 400-foot patrols to deal with those disrupting people\u2019s security. They will not show any leniency. We seriously warn against holding any gatherings anywhere.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

SSF spokesman spoke of the arrest of 630 people who had been handed over to judicial authorities. Isfahan\u2019s SSF commander told State-run\u00a0<\/span>Mehr<\/span>\u00a0news agency, \u201cThere are always those who disrupt the social order, public security and safety. The police will seriously confront these people.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Qazvin Prosecutor General said that he will deal with people who stage gatherings without leniency. East Azerbaijan Prosecutor added that he will not allow some individuals using the pretext of\u00a0<\/span>Chaharshanbe<\/span>\u00a0Suri to disrupt people\u2019s security and tranquility\u2026 Any gathering, including\u00a0<\/span>Chaharshanbe<\/span>\u00a0Suri festivities, has been banned.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Kurdish Press Agency wrote, “The sound of bombs and explosions amid smoke and fire has made the corona-stricken cities look like war-torn\u00a0<\/span>cities\u00a0<\/span>… The smell of smoke and fire has swept the city. The sound of bombs and firecrackers doesn’t\u00a0<\/span>stop for<\/span>\u00a0a minute<\/span>. The flames could be seen in the surrounding mountains and the Fire-fest is on.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
