As the coronavirus claims over 3<\/span>,3<\/span>00 lives in Iran and\u00a0<\/span>spread<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0across Iranian prisons,\u00a0<\/span>the United Nations Special Rapporteur\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>the Situation of\u00a0<\/span>Human Rights in Iran,\u00a0<\/span>Javaid<\/span>\u00a0R<\/span>e<\/span>hman,\u00a0<\/span>urged the regime on Tuesday to release all prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Mr. R<\/span>e<\/span>hman s<\/span>aid on Tuesday he had asked\u00a0<\/span>the regime<\/span>\u00a0to free all prisoners temporarily, saying it is “unfortunate and disturbing”\u00a0<\/span>that the regime<\/span>\u00a0continue<\/span>s to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>hold<\/span>\u00a0political pris<\/span>oners amid the coronavirus outbreak.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to reports published by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI,<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/span><\/a>, due to the regime\u2019s cover-up and\u00a0<\/span>inaction, the coronavirus has spread to ov<\/span>er 149 cities, taking\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>lives of over 3,300 people<\/a>.\u00a0 MEK reports also confirm the spread of the COVID-19\u00a0<\/span>in Iranian prisons, as the regime fails to take necessary preventi<\/span>ve measures.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard, when asked about the regime handling this crisis, the UN Special Rapporteur said: \u201cIn my estimation the state has done too little and too late.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rehman also described the pace of the spread of the virus within Iran as “highly disturbing” and criticized containment measures carried out by the authorities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to reports published by the MEK, a<\/span>t\u00a0<\/span>Vakilabad<\/span>\u00a0Prison in Mashhad, political prisoners have been transferred to a ward housing\u00a0virus-infected inmate<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Parvaneh<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Salahshuri<\/span>, a regime\u00a0<\/span>member of parliament<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>admitted<\/span>\u00a0on Wednesday:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cAll prisoners are endangered due to the widespread outbreak of Coronavirus in Iran\u2026 while generally, the hygienic and sanitary conditions in prisons are unacceptable<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Political prisoner Soheil Arabi<\/span>, currently\u00a0<\/span>detained in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>wrote a letter from prison, pointing to the threats of coronavirus and drugs posed to those arrested during the<\/span>\u00a0Iran protests in November.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Those arrested in November 2019 are being detained today alongside graft convicts, drug salesmen, robbers, etc. In addition to being hunted by drug sellers, these oppressed young men are now in danger of contracting the Coronavirus<\/span>,\u201d wrote Mr. Arabi<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0reiterated<\/span>: \u201cD<\/span>ue to the inhumane conditions of the prisons, prisoners, especially political prisoners must be released immediately without any bail or conditions, otherwise Coronavirus outbreak will cause a human catastrophe in prisons.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Due to inhuman conditions in the regime\u2019s jails in #Iran<\/a>, prisoners and particularly the political prisoners must be released immediately, unconditionally and without asking for bail, otherwise all prisoners would die of the #Coronavirus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Rajavi also warned of the deteriorating plight of the Sunni compatriots in areas such as\u00a0<\/span>Gonbad-Kavus<\/span>\u00a0(northeast Iran)<\/span>. \u201c<\/span>Sunni residents in city, including 500 villages, are subjected to dual pressure. They are suffering from the lack of any medical and hygiene facilities. Dozens of them have already lost their lives. The World Health Organization, therefore, must\u00a0in particular help\u00a0these disadvantaged people because the regime will do nothing for them<\/span>,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she added<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
