As the coronavirus claims over 3<\/span>,3<\/span>00 lives in Iran and\u00a0<\/span>spread<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0across Iranian prisons,\u00a0<\/span>the United Nations Special Rapporteur\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>the Situation of\u00a0<\/span>Human Rights in Iran,\u00a0<\/span>Javaid<\/span>\u00a0R<\/span>e<\/span>hman,\u00a0<\/span>urged the regime on Tuesday to release all prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s own officials are making alarming remarks about the coronavirus epidemic in Iran, which has now claimed more than 3,300 lives<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe [Health] Minister explained in the Supreme National Security Council session that if everything goes well, we will be reaching the [coronavirus] climax at April 9. Numbers will begin to drop afterwards, but we will be engaged with this virus for another two months,\u201d said Ali Asgari, head of the regime\u2019s state TV and radio.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis [virus] threatens our society more than anything else. Nearly ten percent of our population is over the age of 60 and nearly the same amount are prone to illnesses. Putting these numbers together, we have at least ten million high risk cases across the country,\u201d said Mohammad Reza Najafi, a member of the regime\u2019s Majlis (parliament).<\/p>\n

Hundreds of Thousands of Prisoners, Especially Political Prisoners, at Risk of Coronavirus Infection.<\/p>\n

In Evin Prison many political prisoners are suffering from Coronavirus symptoms, such as severe coughing and high fever.\u00a0 There is serious shortage of disinfectants, and Coronavirus test kits are non-existent.<\/p>\n

Iran’s regime has abandoned hundreds of thousands of prisoners to the Coronavirus.<\/p>\n

Sunni political prisoners in Gohardasht Prison protested the abysmal sanitary conditions. They demanded hygiene facilities to prevent the disease’s transmission to the prison.<\/p>\n

Dozens of Sunni citizens in Gonbad Kavous have died so far. The World Health Organization must pay special attention and rush to the aid of the deprived people of Gonbad Kavous and our Sunni compatriots because the clerical regime would not do anything for them #COVID19<\/a> #Iran<\/a><\/p>\n

After a prisoner in Urmia was infected, guards took the temperature of a few prisoners but then said the thermometer\u2019s battery had run out. They left and didn’t come back.<\/p>\n

In recent days, families of prisoners in Urmia\u2019s Central Prison have gathered there with bail and requested temporary leave for their loved ones, but officials refuse to grant leave.<\/p>\n

In Zahedan, several prisoners have been infected. In Quchan, a prisoner has died. Prisoners have protested the lack of preventive measures, but no action has been taken.<\/p>\n

Maryam Rajavi<\/a> called on the UN leaders and the Security Council to take immediate action to save the lives of prisoners, particularly political prisoners under torture and additional restrictions.<\/p>\n

Maryam Rajavi: Urgent international intervention is critical to avert a large humanitarian catastrophe.<\/p>\n
