Annual Report 2020 – Women\u2019s Committee of the NCRI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Women\u2019s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a> published its annual report on the eve of International Women\u2019s Day<\/span>, on March 7, 2020.\u00a0<\/span>This\u00a0<\/span>report<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is meant to portray an overall picture of the Iranian women\u2019s situation\u00a0<\/span>between March 2019\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0February 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201c<\/span>As Iranian women are taking the final steps in their quest for freedom and equality, the situation is becoming more polarized in the country<\/span>,\u201d read the report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In its annual report,\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>he NCRI Women\u2019s Committee spoke of various\u00a0<\/span>issues concerning Iranian women such as\u00a0<\/span>being subjected<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>arbitrary arrests, 105<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>executions<\/span>\u00a0of women prisoners<\/span>\u00a0during the tenure of the so-called \u201cmoderate\u201d president Hassan Rouhani,\u00a0<\/span>cr<\/span>uel punishments\u00a0<\/span>against labor and women\u2019s rights activists<\/span>\u00a0and the regime\u2019s brutal crackdown\u00a0<\/span>on the nationwide Iran protests in November, killing 1500 peopl<\/span>e, including hundreds of women.\u00a0<\/span>The report also shed light on the\u00a0<\/span>poor working conditions of the Iranian women and the regime\u2019s misogynist\u00a0<\/span>laws<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>On the one hand, the oppression of women is taking on new dimensions. The rights of nurses, teachers, and religious minority women continue to be ignored and violated. Women and their children are the prime victims in the earthquakes and floods, abandoned without any form of government support. And women are discriminated against more than ever in the job market, in education, arts, music, sports,\u00a0<\/span>etc<\/span>,\u201d read the report.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Poverty and its consequent social ills are becoming more and more feminized. The age of homeless women, addicted women, prostitutes, suicide victims, etc. has dropped to mid-teens. Child marriages are more commonly practiced in various provinces, further adding to the number of child widows and women heads of household who are as young as 14<\/span>,\u201d the report added.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While referring to the ongoing struggle by Iranian women to achieve freedom and equality<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the NCRI\u2019s Women\u2019s Committee\u00a0<\/span>wrote:<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span>In the meantime, human rights defenders who are arrested and detained in abysmal prison conditions, continue their defense of human rights. They use every opportunity to expose the regime\u2019s crimes, support the protests in the streets, and even to report on the conditions of arrested protesters in prisons<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn the other hand, Iranian women have become more outspoken, spearheading the protests and uprisings. They were so effective in leading two nationwide uprisings in the past year that the authorities were compelled to acknowledge their role in the protests,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>the report added.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The brave women of Iran are fighting not only for their own freedom but for the freedom of all Iranians. They lead the struggle of Iranian people towards freedom and equality, and their unflinching resolve will eventually realize this goal<\/span>,\u201d read the report.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
