In a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">similar development<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on March 19, 2020, prisoners at the\u00a0<\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/statement-human-rights\/iran-prisoners-collectively-escape-khorramabad-prison-several-shot-dead-by-revolutionary-guards\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Parsilon<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Prison in Khorramabad, Lorestan province, who were at risk of being infected by the coronavirus infection, rebelled, disarmed the guards, and collectively escaped.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Rebellion in Aligodarz and Khorramabad Prisons, Several Prisoners Killed<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Coronavirus?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Coronavirus<\/a> in prisons, call on the international community to release hundreds of thousands of inmates to prevent a major catastrophe <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Covid_19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Covid_19<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3uTvGBRtNA\">https:\/\/t.co\/3uTvGBRtNA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1241491263624527874?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite repeated domestic and international calls for the release of the prisoners, especially political prisoners, the Iranian regime is refusing to do so.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to reports published by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(PMOI or MEK)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the coronavirus outbreak in Iran has so far claimed lives of nearly 11,000 people<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in over 212 cities<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the regime has not only failed in quarantining cities, it has further\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">neglected<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0quarantining prisons<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, causing the virus to rapidly spread\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">across<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0highly populated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Iranian prisons.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On the other hand,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regime\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">has long delayed releasing prisoners<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"in\" dir=\"ltr\">Iran: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Coronavirus?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Coronavirus<\/a> Fatalities Exceed 10,500 in 212 Cities<br \/>The number of victims in Isfahan province exceeds 1,262, Kashan 500, Khorasan Razavi 872, Zanjan 83, Ardebil 160, Golestan 536, Khuzestan 369, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 41, and Semnan 40 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID%E3%83%BC19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID\u30fc19<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ds5QFmKTW6\">https:\/\/t.co\/ds5QFmKTW6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1242201096472363017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fox\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">N<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ews published an interview with an\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Iranian prisoner<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, obtained via the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">last week.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The prisoner, called\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meqdad<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">said<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The situation here is that really we\u2019re all ill, we are all having dry cough. We have a fever. There is no test kit for coronavirus or any test kits available. All we can do is try to reach the clinic by pushing and shoving,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0he said.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And once there, the guards tell us there is no doctor or that the doctor is not coming, return to your ward or we will use force. The rest stay here in prisons on different pretexts,\u2019 he continued. \u2018It seems that those whom the regime was unable to kill during November uprisings are being liquidated in the prison by coronavirus. They can eliminate whoever they choose, under the guise that the prisoner has contracted coronavirus, and the prisoner is taken away without anyone knowing about his whereabouts,&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meqdad<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0added.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regime<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0engulfed with crisis has been using the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coronavirus\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">crisis to oppress the Iranian people and avoid another public protest. Yet i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ts inaction and cover-up, which has resulted in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">an ast<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ronomic\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rise\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the death toll, will eventually lead to an u<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">prising.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Asra<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a think-tank close to the regime\u2019s supreme leader,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ali Khamenei<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0wrote: \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Crossing the line of resilience and the lack of a centralized crisis management mechanism can turn local and regional uprisings into nationwide uprisings.
