Upon the receipt of the news of infection in prisons in March 2020, Maryam Rajavi called for the immediate and unconditional release of the prisoners; otherwise, there will be a catastrophe<\/p>\n

These documents that show only a few cases of the prisoners who have been infected with the Coronavirus are clear evidence of a crime against humanity by Ali Khamenei, the regime’s supreme leader, and Ebrahim Raisi, head of the judiciary, who have rejected to release the prisoners, and responded to their protests by gunshots. So far, many prisoners in Tehran and other cities have contracted corona, and several of them have died. At a time when there is not the least amount of hygiene facilities in regime’s prisons, and the prisons have been overcrowded many times their capacity, the prisoners in various prisons have rebelled, and dozens of them have been martyred so far.<\/p>\n

According to a statement issued by the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran on March 11, 2020, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) upon receiving the news from prisons, reiterated that due to the inhumane conditions of the prisons, prisoners, especially political prisoners must be released immediately without any bail or conditions; otherwise Coronavirus outbreak will cause a human catastrophe in prisons. The president-elect of the Iranian Resistance has repeatedly called on the international community to force the regime to release prisoners to prevent a major humanitarian disaster.<\/p>\n
