Worldwide condemnation of the Iranian regime\u2019s ongoing human rights violations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Iranian regime\u2019s ongoing human rights violations, particularly\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>execution of minor<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and other prisoners in the recent days,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>not releasing prisoners am<\/span>id the coronavirus outbreak<\/a><\/span>, has been\u00a0<\/span>condemned by the international community.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>UN High Commissioner for Human Rights<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Michelle Bachelet on Wednesday condemned the execution of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Shayan<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Saeedpour<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the second execution of\u00a0<\/span>a child offender\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>recent\u00a0<\/span>days by the Iranian authorities.<\/span>\u00a0Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Saeedpour<\/span>\u00a0was rearrested after participating in\u00a0<\/span>a rebellion\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Saqqez<\/span>\u00a0prison<\/span>\u00a0against prison conditions amid\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>coronavirus outbreak.\u00a0<\/span>Prior to\u00a0<\/span>Shayan<\/span>, on\u00a0<\/span>18 April, Majid\u00a0<\/span>Esmailzadeh<\/span>\u00a0was also reportedly executed in Ardabil prison in Ardabil Province. He was arrested in\u00a0<\/span>2012 and<\/span>\u00a0convicted on a charge of murder allegedly committed when he was under 18.<\/span>\u00a0In addition,<\/span>\u00a0the death sentence for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Danial\u00a0<\/span>Zeinolabedini<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>who was<\/span>\u00a0sentenced despite being under 18 at the time of the offence, was\u00a0<\/span>upheld\u00a0<\/span>on 2 April after he was beaten by officials in\u00a0<\/span>Miandoab<\/span>\u00a0prison in West Azerbaijan Province. He had been transferred there along with other prisoners who had rioted in\u00a0<\/span>Mahabad<\/span>\u00a0prison on 28 March in protest at prison conditions and the failure of the authorities to temporarily release them amid the\u00a0<\/span>coronavirus outbreak\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe executions of these two child offenders are absolutely prohibited under international human rights law. Numerous United Nations bodies and experts have made it clear time and time again that the imposition of the death penalty for crimes committed by people below the age of 18 at the time of the offence is strictly prohibited,\u201d the High Commissioner said<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDespite repeated interventions and engagement by my own Office with the Government of Iran on this issue, the sentencing and executions of child offenders continue. This is both regrettable and, given the clear illegality of these actions, reprehensible. I repeat my call on Iranian authorities to\u00a0<\/span>honour<\/span>\u00a0its international human rights obligations, immediately halt all executions of juvenile offenders and commute all such death sentences,\u201d she added, while referring to the fact the mullahs’ regime has been ignoring\u00a0<\/span>international<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>condemnations and appeals\u00a0<\/span>for the\u00a0<\/span>regime to stop human rights violation<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that two of these child offenders who have lost their lives in the past three weeks had been involved in protests driven by fear of the spread of COVID-19 in places of detention raises grave concerns about the possibility of expedited executions of other death-row prisoners who were involved in those protests,\u201d Bachelet said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on April 17,\u00a0<\/span>UN human rights experts<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>particularly\u00a0<\/span>Javaid<\/span>\u00a0Rehman, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran<\/span>, while referring to the regime\u2019s mistreat<\/span>ment of<\/span>\u00a0prisoners and lack of hygienic facilities in prisons amid the coronavirus outbreak said:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Iran’s prisons have long-standing hygiene, overcrowding and healthcare problems. We urge the Iranian authorities to implement measures consistent with their obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, including the right of persons deprived of their liberty to be treated with humanity and with respect for their inherent dignity, and the right to life.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0<\/span>its 2019 global review<\/span><\/a>\u00a0of the death\u00a0<\/span>penalty\u00a0 published<\/span>\u00a0on April 21, Amnesty International ranked Iran under the mullahs’ regime as the “the world\u2019s second most prolific executioner after China, where the exact number of people put to death remains a state secret.”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIran is second only to China in its use of the death penalty. It put to death at least 251 people in 2019, compared with at least 253 in 2018 \u2013 four of whom were below 18 at the time of the crime. However, a lack of transparency makes it difficult to confirm the real total number of executions \u2013 which may be far higher,\u201d wrote Amnesty International in its press release.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite these repeated\u00a0<\/span>international\u00a0<\/span>appeals<\/span>\u00a0and condemnation<\/span>, the Iranian regime<\/span>\u00a0is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>desperately<\/span>\u00a0trying to\u00a0<\/span>control\u00a0<\/span>the restive Iranian society by increasing executions and torture; even as the coronavirus cont<\/span>inues to claim more lives due to the mullahs\u2019 inaction and cover-up.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In another development,\u00a0<\/span>On Wednesday, April 22,\u00a0<\/span>the Iranian regime<\/span>\u00a0hanged at least 11 prisoners in\u00a0<\/span>Gohardasht<\/span>, Kermanshah,\u00a0<\/span>Sanandaj<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Dastgerd<\/span>\u00a0(Isfahan) prisons.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Referring to the ongoing human rights abuses\u00a0<\/span>by the\u00a0<\/span>mullahs\u2019 regime, Mrs.\u202f<\/span>Maryam Rajavi<\/span><\/a>, the President-elect of\u202f<\/span>the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><\/a>, underscored that the regime had brought Iran and Iranians nothing but suppression, executions, poverty, and corruption. She said, in order to intimate and terrorize the public and contain the situation amid the coronavirus disaster<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the regime has resorted to executing the prisoners instead of releasing them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
