The People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a> announced on\u00a0<\/span>Sunday that due to the Iranian regime\u2019s inaction<\/span>, nearly 36,000<\/strong> people<\/a> have lost their lives across Iran<\/span>\u00a0as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic<\/a><\/span>. The\u00a0<\/span>regime\u00a0<\/span>has\u00a0<\/span>trie<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0to downplay the crisis and show it has control over the situation, yet its officials\u2019 contradictory remarks reject this notion.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn early-May or mid-Ramadan, mosques, religious sites, holy shrines and Friday prayers will reopen per specific protocols in 127 clear (virus-free) areas<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0said\u00a0<\/span>the regime\u2019s president Hassan Rouhani on Sunday.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the regime\u2019s National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) \u201cepidemiologic committee\u201d stated in its latest report published in the state-run daily, <\/span>Hamshahri<\/span>, \u201cSemnan, Yazd, Qom, Qazvin,\u00a0<\/span>Markazi<\/span>, East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Alborz, Isfahan, and\u00a0<\/span>Zanjan<\/span>\u00a0are among the provinces with a rising trend of the outbreak. The same group of Semnan,\u00a0<\/span>Markazi<\/span>, and Qom provinces have experienced an upward trend<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alaeddin<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Boroujerdi<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0regime MP, who is close to the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0defended the officially announced Coronavirus statistics in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>April 21 session of the parliament and told state-run Radio\u00a0<\/span>Farhang<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cThe statistics are officially published. The head of Tehran\u2019s City Council Health Commission announced, \u2018the Health Ministry engineers the statistics every day and, in this way, it\u2019s playing with the people\u2019s lives<\/span>.<\/span>\u2019\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>his is none of the city council\u2019s business. Ms. Zahra\u00a0<\/span>Sadre<\/span>-Azam, a member of Tehran\u2019s City Council, says that the death toll is much higher than the officially announced figures. I think such remarks are irresponsible. I regret what has been said, and Tehran City Council must take responsibility for these.”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Massoud<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Younesian<\/span>, a faculty member at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, told<\/a> the state-run newspaper \u201c<\/span>Setareh<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Sobh<\/span>\u201d (Morning Star) on April 24, 2020: \u201cI believe that the\u00a0<\/span>official\u00a0<\/span>statistics are systematically much lower than the\u00a0<\/span>reality<\/span>. Coronavirus statistics in Iran are reported with a process that subconsciously shows the reported cases much less than the reality, because the test used is not very sensitive and reports only half of the cases.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
