{"id":21734,"date":"2016-12-18T10:54:05","date_gmt":"2016-12-18T10:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/21734-iran-torture-and-harassment-of-a-prisoner"},"modified":"2023-01-17T01:52:56","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T00:52:56","slug":"iran-torture-and-harassment-of-a-prisoner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iran-torture-and-harassment-of-a-prisoner\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran: Torture and Harassment of a Prisoner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NCRI &#8211;\u00a0Agents of prison in Karaj \u2013 Western Tehran have severely tortured a prisoner who is suffering from mental problem due to inhuman prison condition after he tried to commit suicide.<\/p>\n<p>The prisoner, Majid Keshvari, is diagnosed even by the prison infirmary to have mental problem due to harsh prison condition and mistreatment by the prison official and has to take specific medicine. According to reports, he was transferred to solitary confinement for several days after severe torture and then returned to the general ward while there were obvious signs of torture and burns on his body.<\/p>\n<p>Prison officials refuse to give this ailing prisoner his required medicine in order to put more pressure on him. Despite all the efforts by the prisoner\u2019s families to follow up his medical treatment, the regime&#8217;s judiciary officials have so far evaded answering and the prisoner remains in critical health condition in the prison.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that Majid Keshvari is accused of causing and participating in riots in Qezelhesar prison in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Of the twelve prisoners who were sentenced to death following the riots on Charshanbeh Souri (a fire fest held on last Wednesday of the year) in 2010 in this prison, seven people were executed and the sentence of five of them was literally broken and reduced to imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Majid Keshvari was held in Gohardasht prison for nearly two years before being transferred to Ward 1 of Qezelhesar prison in Karaj in June 2013.
