Iran\u2019s Regime Arrests Elite Students Amid Coronavirus Outbreak<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

After almost a month of secrecy,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Iranian regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>J<\/span>udiciary announced on\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday it ha<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0arrested two elite students<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>The Judiciary announced these students<\/span>, Amir Hossain Moradi and Ali\u00a0<\/span>Younesi<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0were\u00a0<\/span>in co<\/span>ntact\u00a0<\/span>with the\u00a0<\/span>Iranian Resistance.\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>J<\/span>udiciary spokesperson,\u00a0<\/span>Gholam<\/span>-Hossain\u00a0<\/span>Esmaili<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>claimed that these students\u00a0<\/span>had engaged in \u201cdiversionary actions\u201d and were \u201cattempting to carry out sabotage operations.\u201d \u201cExplosive devices used in sabotage operations were discovered when their homes were searched,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amir Hossein Moradi disappeared on April 10, and Ali\u00a0<\/span>Younesi<\/span>\u00a0was brought home in the evening of the same day, with injuries and torture marks. Ali won the gold medal of the 12th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, held in China in 2018. Earlier, he had won the silver and gold medals of the National Astronomy Olympiad in 2016 and 2017. Amir Hossein also won the Olympiad silver medal in 2017.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or\u00a0<\/a><\/span>MEK<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0also announced\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>names of\u00a0<\/span>18 other people<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>who have been recently and secretly arrested by the regime.\u00a0<\/span>The regime was forced to announce the arrest of\u00a0<\/span>all<\/span>\u00a0these prisoners, particularly Ali and Amir Hossain<\/span>, following international pressure and\u00a0<\/span>student protests at Sharif University<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0w<\/span>h<\/span>ere Ali and Amir Hossain were studying.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard, Mrs. Maryam\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Rajavi<\/span><\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran\u00a0<\/a><\/span>(NCRI)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>emphasized that the detainees are subject to torture and face execution, as well as in danger of being exposed to\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Coronavirus.\u00a0 She again urged the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Human Rights Council, as well as the international human rights organizations to take urgent action to secure the release<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0the detainees and to send international missions to visit the regime\u2019s prisons and meet with these prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n
