The\u00a0<\/span>People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0announced\u00a0<\/span>on Wednesday that COVID-19 has so far taken\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>lives of\u00a0<\/span>nearly\u00a0<\/span>45,000<\/span>\u00a0people<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in Iran<\/span>. Instead of helping people, in line with the rising death toll,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>regime\u2019s president, Hassan Rouhani\u2019s lies\u00a0<\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>increase<\/span>d<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While heads of hospitals, regime officials,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>state-run media acknowledge\u00a0<\/span>there is\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>rising number of the coronavirus death and infection rate<\/span>, even among health workers,\u00a0<\/span>and shortage of medication\u00a0<\/span>and hospital beds\u00a0<\/span>are staggering,<\/span>\u00a0Rouhani continue<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>his<\/span>\u00a0lies<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>deception<\/span>, downplaying and cover-up of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/a><\/span>COVID-19 cris<\/span>i<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rouhani and the regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, fearing an uprising due to the increasing economic pressure on society ordered people back to work.\u00a0<\/span>This decision along with reopening<\/span>\u00a0of<\/span>\u00a0religious sites has resulted in more death and infection.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mohammad\u00a0<\/span>Shanbodi<\/span>, the health director of\u00a0<\/span>Mahshahr<\/span>\u00a0port in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran, in an\u00a0<\/span>interview on<\/span>\u00a0Tuesday with the state-run ILNA news agency<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0said: \u201cThe Coronavirus outbreak in Khuzestan has taken an upward trend. In the last few days,\u00a0<\/span>Mahshahr<\/span>\u00a0hospitals have been overwhelmed with patients.\u00a0<\/span>Naft<\/span>\u00a0Hospital allocated another ward to Coronavirus patients. Hospital beds are not enough, and there is no room for more patients. Unfortunately, many of the medical staff have contracted the virus, which forced them to enter quarantine. I emphasize that we have no substitute for them.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>state-run\u00a0<\/span>Iran\u00a0<\/span>daily<\/span>\u00a0reported on\u00a0<\/span>Tuesday:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>In<\/span>\u00a0Lorestan province\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>fficials have announced a red state and banned travelers\u2019 entry to the Province<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run\u00a0<\/span>Tasnim<\/span>\u00a0news agency on May 25 quoted\u00a0<\/span>a lawmaker from<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Izeh<\/span>\u00a0and Bagh-e Malek as saying: \u201cPeople of Khuzestan and some other southern provinces are facing many problems caused by the outbreak of the Coronavirus \u2026 If the situation continues like this, it will be difficult to control and deal with Coronavirus in these provinces.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 24<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0state television reported: “The daily number of infections rose by 1.32<\/span>\u00a0percent<\/span>\u00a0in the first ten days of the Iranian month of\u00a0<\/span>Ordibehesht<\/span>, 1.4 percent during the second 10 days, and 1.48 percent in the third ten days, respectively.”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile on May 23, Rouhani, despite the rising number of death<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and infection<\/span>s,<\/span>\u00a0blatantly said: \u201cSome are trying to scare people in the country about the Coronavirus disease<\/span>. W<\/span>e should not tolerate this.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday May 20, Rouhani while trying to downplay the extent of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>crisis spoke of\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>\u201cdeclining trend of the Coronavirus prevalence that is about to be contained.\u201d He shamelessly blamed the outbreak in some provinces on people \u201cnot following the instructions completely.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier on May 20 Rouhani claimed<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cWe have been making progress step-by-step in these three months, having no relapses anywhere. Altogether, we have made good progress in the fight against this dangerous virus and have almost managed to contain the disease.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On May 19, Rouhani bogusly claimed<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cThe government\u2019s actions in the field of health and treatment and the implementation of the health development plan, in dealing with Coronavirus has placed us in a position that we don\u2019t have any shortage of special hospital beds and medical facilities and equipment.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Contrary<\/span>\u00a0to Rouhani’s claims, on May 18, Dr.\u00a0<\/span>Massoud<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Mardani<\/span>, a member of the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0told the state-run daily, Salamat\u00a0<\/span>N<\/span>ews<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0\u201cWe still have difficulty in obtaining medicine, protective instruments and ICU beds. We should not move from bad to worse. It seems that we need to move towards more severe quarantine conditions. The current situation is by no means favorable.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fearing a possible social turmoil and another series of the nationwide Iran protests which sho<\/span>o<\/span>k the regime\u2019s foundation in November 2019, the regime resorted to\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>cover-up and deception\u00a0<\/span>over the COVID-19 crisis<\/span>. It\u00a0<\/span>intends to use it as a tool of oppression. Yet, the restive Iranian society, after 40 years of oppression<\/span>\u00a0and severe economic pressure due\u00a0<\/span>to the regime\u2019s institu<\/span>tionalized corruption, is like a powder keg and needs an<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0spark to explode. The regime currently fears the post coronavirus\u00a0<\/span>situation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mohammad-Reza Mortazavi<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>ead of the Iranian Flour Makers Association and President of the Iranian Food Industry Associations<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0said on Tuesday: \u201cThis social hatred that has engulfed the middle class is one of the factors hindering prosperity in the country. This hatred will turn to resentment.\u00a0 I remember the first days of the revolution. Some people were running into houses, confiscating those houses\u2026 I\u00a0<\/span>envision\u00a0<\/span>that day<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and it is crystal clear to me that those days are coming back. As someone who knows and looks at society, I see that this hatred is growing and [will turn into a revolution<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>] will explode.”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 7, Iran-<\/span>Emrouz<\/span>\u00a0state-run daily wrote: \u201cWe are going to have a major social upheaval after the Coronavirus is over. The situation is not going to be calm. It is going to be exactly like the period after the 2017 elections (uprisings), and we are going to see repeated and powerful incidents.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
