Iran regime\u2019s\u00a0interior minister\u00a0admits to killing\u00a0protesters\u00a0during Iran protests<\/a>, international community must\u00a0intervene<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Iranian regime\u2019s Minister of Interior, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, on Saturday announced<\/a>\u00a0that between 200 and 255 people lost their lives during the nationwide Iran protests.\u00a0Although he tried to downplay the regime\u2019s brutality\u00a0after\u00a0seven\u00a0months of\u00a0silence,\u00a0the international community must consider this a crime against humanity and regime\u2019s officials should be prosecuted\u00a0for\u00a0it. <\/p>\n

In an interview\u00a0on\u00a0state\u00a0television,\u00a0Rahmani Fazli<\/a> said: \u201cSome have declared the number of deaths was 10,000, some 8,000, some 7,000, some put it at 6,000\u00a0or 2,000, but,\u00a0if God wills, the death toll will be announced\u00a0in future days and [you would see] the number is not as mentioned. I would like to say that\u00a0About 40 or 45 people, meaning around 20% of those killed, were shot with nonstandard issue weapons and are even considered\u00a0to have been\u00a0martyred.\u201d<\/p>\n

The People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/a> due to its vast network inside Iran was able to track the true death toll. As the MEK<\/a> announced on\u00a0December 15, 2019, the regime\u2019s security forces killed over 1500\u00a0protesters<\/a>, arrested 12,000 and wounded over 4,000 people during the nationwide Iran protests in November.<\/p>\n

On 23 December 2019, in a special report, Reuters also confirmed<\/a> the regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei\u2019s direct order to oppress protesters, resulting in over 1500 people being killed.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAbout 1,500 people were killed during less than two weeks of unrest that started on Nov. 15. The toll, provided to Reuters by three Iranian interior ministry officials.\u201d<\/p>\n

Human Rights defenders and groups, such as Amnesty International\u00a0<\/a>condemned the regime\u2019s use of lethal force in suppressing protesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that so many people were shot while posing no threat whatsoever shows the sheer ruthlessness of the security forces\u2019 unlawful killing spree,\u201d said Philip Luther, Amnesty International\u2019s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0the internet is replete with\u00a0footages from Iran showing\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s security forces\u00a0shooting unarmed protesters in cold blood on\u00a0the\u00a0streets,\u00a0Rahmani Fazli\u00a0blatantly said:\u00a0\u201cNo armed confrontation with the people happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nationwide Iran protests\u00a0started following the regime\u2019s decision to increase the fuel prices, putting additional economic pressure on the Iranian people.\u00a0Considering the regime as the root of all the economic crises and after\u00a0the\u00a0mullahs\u2019 forty years of oppression, the protests soon turned political with people\u00a0targeting\u00a0the\u00a0regime\u2019s top officials, such as its\u00a0Supreme\u00a0Leader Ali Khamenei and\u00a0President\u00a0Hassan Rouhani,\u00a0in their slogans. They also attacked centers of oppression. The nationwide Iran protests shook the regime\u2019s foundation and showed how restive the Iranian society is.<\/p>\n

The regime answered with brutal suppression, and to conceal its crimes, it imposed an internet blackout for days.\u00a0The regime was also afraid of the role by the Iranian Resistance in exposing\u00a0its\u00a0brutality\u00a0and\u00a0in\u00a0leading the uprising.<\/p>\n

In this regard,\u00a0Rahmani Fazli said:\u00a0\u201cThey\u00a0say Rahmani shut down\u00a0the\u00a0internet on those days.\u00a0I surely did. Because they were commanding and training [people] through\u00a0the\u00a0internet.\u00a0Why are\u00a0people\u00a0upset? They were\u00a0looking to start a civil war. As the country\u2019s security\u00a0officials,\u00a0we had been tracking their activities;\u00a0they were planning for months. The fuel price [hike] sparked this.\u00a0It had\u00a0a vast social aspect and field, yet it should have been much larger than this. They wanted to make chaos in the\u00a0country and turn our country\u00a0into another Syria. Preserving [the regime\u2019s] security\u00a0is our priority.\u201d<\/p>\n

On May 20, the United States Department of the Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Rahmani\u00a0Fazli\u00a0for his role in serious human rights abuses against Iranian people, along with seven senior officials of the Iranian regime\u2019s Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) and a provincial commander of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the Iranian regime\u2019s Interior Minister and chair of Iran\u2019s National Domestic Security Council (NDSC), Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli (Rahmani Fazli) has responsibilities for overseeing internal security issues, including Iran\u2019s LEF. Rahmani Fazli holds the title of \u2018Deputy or Replacement Commander-in Chief of Police Forces,\u2019 as delegated to him by the Supreme Leader. Rahmani Fazli has issued orders authorizing the LEF to use lethal force in response to the\u00a0November 2019<\/a> protests, resulting in violence against peaceful protestors and bystanders. His orders led to the killing of many protesters, including at least 23 minors,\u201d the Treasury Department announced.<\/p>\n

Although Rahmani\u00a0Fazli\u2019s\u00a0acknowledgment that\u00a0the regime has killed over 200 people during the November uprising is important,\u00a0he refused to announce\u00a0the real\u00a0death toll.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0seven\u00a0months, the regime\u2019s officials\u00a0refused to\u00a0give\u00a0any statistics about the\u00a0Iran protests\u2019 casualties. The reason is they are afraid that announcing the death toll\u00a0would\u00a0once again\u00a0cause a\u00a0spark\u00a0in\u00a0the Iranian society and result in a nationwide uprising.\u00a0Their silence\u00a0is\u00a0reminiscent of\u00a0the regime\u2019s 30 years\u00a0of denying the massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly the MEK supporters, in\u00a0a\u00a0matter of months in 1988. The regime has not even\u00a0given the\u00a0location\u00a0of their graves to their family members.\u00a0This is much like the regime\u2019s downplaying of the coronavirus outbreak.\u00a0According to the MEK,\u00a0so far 48,200 people have lost their lives because of COVID-19 and the regime\u2019s inaction. Yet the regime tries to downplay this crisis and even has ordered people back to work amid the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n

The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC<\/a>) shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet<\/a>\u00a0on January 8,\u00a0but\u00a0for days, despite undeniable\u00a0evidence, the regime\u2019s officials denied\u00a0shooting down this airliner. When they did, in matter of hours, Iranian people, with students at their forefront, poured\u00a0onto\u00a0the\u00a0streets\u00a0and unanimously\u00a0demanded\u00a0regime change.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the regime knows well, that announcing the November protests death\u00a0toll, or even the coronavirus death toll,\u00a0will\u00a0trigger and explosion within\u00a0the Iranian society,\u00a0which\u00a0does\u00a0not forget and forgive the regime.<\/p>\n

On the other hand,\u00a0announcing the real death toll\u00a0will have\u00a0severe\u00a0international consequences for the regime.<\/p>\n

Although the regime desperately tries to control the Iranian society by deception and lying, yet due to the Iranian Resistance\u2019s\u00a0activity in revealing the truth, informing the public and the international community,\u00a0as well as the growing economic pressure on\u00a0the\u00a0people,\u00a0the society will explode one day or another.<\/p>\n

Ahmad\u00a0Naderi, a regime official, told the state-run\u00a0Resalat\u00a0daily on March 7: \u201cI am worried about the social and security outcome of this crisis. Soon, rebellions, much larger than the ones in 2018 and 2019 and certainly much larger than the ones in the 1990s, will happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

On April 7, Iran-Emrouz\u00a0state-run daily wrote: \u201cWe are going to have a major social upheaval after the Coronavirus is over. The situation is not going to be calm. It is going to be exactly like the period after the 2017 elections (uprisings), and we are going to see repeated and powerful incidents.\u201d<\/p>\n

The state-run\u00a0Resalat\u00a0daily wrote on Tuesday, May 26: \u201cOnly one excuse is needed, then like a match flame that falls into a haystack, everything [of the regime] will be burnt.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
