Urmia central prison<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Reports from the Urmia central prison, northwest Iran, indicate that due to the regime\u2019s negligence in\u00a0<\/span>isolating and curing those infected with COVID-19<\/a><\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>dozen<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>inmates are infected and there is possibility of a catastrophe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a> announced on Wednesday that over 49,000<\/a> people have\u00a0<\/span>lost their lives due to the coronavirus outbreak.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since last week, many of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>inmates in different wards of Urmia<\/a> prison had symptoms of COVID-19<\/span>, such a<\/span>s fever, shiver<\/span>ing<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>sore<\/span>\u00a0throat,\u00a0<\/span>loss<\/span>\u00a0of taste and smell,\u00a0<\/span>aches,<\/span>\u00a0and pain.\u00a0 The prison authorities\u2019 negligence has resulted in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>spread of the virus across Urmia Central Prison, infecting\u00a0<\/span>all prisoners. Following repetitive protests by prisoners, and fearing another round of riots, the regime\u2019s authorities tested some\u00a0<\/span>of the inmates, all of whom tested positive for COVID-19. These few inmates were transferred to hospital.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0The prisoners\u00a0<\/span>of Central Urmia Prison, much like other prison<\/span>s,<\/span>\u00a0are deprived of having the minimum hygienic facilities such as soap<\/span>s and disinfectants. These goods are sold at a very high price, and most of the prisoners cannot afford to buy them. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a detailed report<\/span>\u00a0published on March 12<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the National Council of Resistance of Iran, based on the information obtained by the MEK<\/a> through its vast network\u00a0<\/span>inside Iran<\/span>, stated<\/span>: \u201cPrisoners are deprived of sanitary masks and even disinfectants. Some prisoners in Karaj\u2019s central prison do not have prison cells and are held in the prison yard. Lack of hygiene is aggravated because political and ordinary prisoners, including addicts, are kept together. This situation has accelerated the spread of the Coronavirus. According to reports by relatives of prisoners, the Iranian regime has exploited the Coronavirus crisis to heighten pressure on and even secretly eliminate political prisoners. The official statement regarding temporary leave for prisoners does not pertain to political prisoners.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
