The mullahs\u2019 regime has put aside the policy of keeping silen<\/span>t about<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Iranian<\/span>\u00a0Resistance and is\u00a0<\/span>charging\u00a0<\/span>full\u00a0<\/span>speed\u00a0<\/span>against the\u00a0<\/span>main democratic opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI, Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK)<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s supreme leader\u00a0<\/span>Ali\u00a0<\/span>Khamenei has, on several occasions, expressed fear that the MEK<\/a> influences the hearts and minds of\u00a0<\/span>Iranian<\/span>\u00a0youth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, senior officials take to the stage one after the other to attack the MEK<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The mullahs\u2019 Chief Justice Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> lamented, two days ago, that the young generation \u201cdoes not know the truth about the MEK<\/a>.\u201d He tried to heap accusations on the opposition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, one truth the youth might not be aware of is that, as a member of a four-person \u201cdeath committee,\u201d in 1988<\/a>, Raisi<\/a> had ordered the execution of 30<\/span>,<\/span>000 MEK<\/a> members serving different prison terms.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On June 3, his advisor on Human Rights, Ali Bagheri Kani, tried his chance a<\/span>gainst\u00a0<\/span>the MEK while attacking \u201cWestern standards\u201d of\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman rights.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bagheri first revealed that the mullahs had left no stones unturned to make the EU relist the MEK<\/a> as a \u201cterrorist entity\u201d after<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0EU\u2019s highest courts delisted the latter in 2009.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Our<\/span>\u00a0ambassador in one European country once met with an EU authority and talked to him on this. He reasoned that the MEK<\/a> was the great violator of\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights… The EU authority had no answer. He said that\u00a0<\/span>\u2018<\/span>we have several exigencies in the nuclear area, and you do not listen to them, so we are obliged to use all instruments that we dispose of,<\/span>\u2019<\/span>\u201d Bagheri said in\u00a0<\/span>an interview<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with the official TV\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>hannel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>F<\/span>ive on June 3.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Like his master, Bagheri refrains from telling the truth about the MEK. He was a member of the mullahs\u2019 negotiating team with the\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>5+1 on the\u00a0<\/span>2015 international\u00a0<\/span>nuclear deal. The mullahs asked their partners to relist the MEK\u00a0<\/a><\/span>in return for<\/span>\u00a0signing of the nuclear agreement. But unlike 2005, their counterparts refused to give in to their intimidations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An AFP dispatch dated October 21, 2004, states that the EU troika proposed that if the mullahs accepted to suspend uranium enrichment, then they would \u201ccontinue considering the MEK<\/a> as a terrorist organization.\u201d So clearly, the listing was the result of a deal to make the mullahs stop their nuclear adventurism, not\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights\u2019 violation<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0by the MEK, as claimed by Bagheri.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>This<\/span>\u00a0is how they look upon us in Western systems. We have to exploit inherent potentials in these countries, as well as capacities beyond those local possibilities,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u200c<\/span>Bagheri elaborated, without explaining what those capacities were.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Historically, the mullahs have used terrorist attacks and hostage-taking efficiently against western countries in the past to intimidate them against the opposition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But the boot went on the other leg when his interlocutor raised the\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights issue, asking why the world condemns the mullahs for not respecting those rights. Unusually, when he asked him to give Iran\u2019s rating in the affair on a world grading, he answered: \u201cWhat they call\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights, we do not accept a lot of it. What they call\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights is in contradiction with\u00a0<\/span>our\u00a0<\/span>religious, as well as our historical and nationalistic basics. We do not accept them, and there is no reason why we should adapt our actions to their standards. We are an old nation boasting a historical civilization.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>If we would rate our action according to their criteria, why did then we carry out a revolution? The West and the US want us to behave according to their standards, and we do not accept<\/span>\u00a0this<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a reminder, one of the most ancient standards in\u00a0<\/span>h<\/span>uman\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>ights belongs to Cyrus the Great. He acknowledged the rights of the Jewish community he liberated from Babylon in 540 BC and other ethnic minorities under his rule in the vast Persian Empire.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he standards Bagheri points to as \u201cour standards\u201d are standards belonging to a medieval regime and not the Iranian people<\/span>\u00a0who have a history of respecting human rights<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After all, Bagheri is a counselor to Ebrahim Raisi<\/a>, considered as the perpetrator of a\u00a0<\/span>crime against humanity<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for his leading role in the 1988 massacre<\/a><\/span>\u00a0of Iran\u2019s political prisoners<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
