Mohammad Mohaddessin is the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of NCRI. He was born in 1955 in the holy city of Qom, central Iran. His father was a renowned religious authority and clergyman.<\/p>\n
As a student of Electrical engineering, he was active in the anti-Shah student movements of the 1970\u2019s. He joined the Mojahedin (PMOI) during his years at university. He was arrested in 1975 and imprisoned on political charges and was sentenced to 15 years prison, but\u00a0 freed in late 1978 during the revolution.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mohaddessin was active in the progressive anti-fundamentalist movement opposed to religious dictatorship during the mullahs\u2019 first years in power. He was later appointed to direct the political section of the Mojahedin. In 1992 he became Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, a position he has held ever since.<\/p>\n
Mr. Mohaddessin’s in-depth knowledge of the ruling religious establishment\u2019s Islamic fundamentalist thought stems from his religious\u2013clerical background and having grown up in a clerical family. His father\u2019s opposition to the Khomeini regime, and his own experience with different aspects of fundamentalist teachings and practices along with years of political and ideological struggle against the Shah and Khomeini, made Mr. Mohaddessin an outspoken critic of Islamic fundamentalism. He has a record of over one hundred press conferences, speeches, and writings on the subject around the globe. He is the author of several books among them “Islamic Fundamentalism, the new global threat\u201d and “Enemies of the Ayatollahs.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
