Iran: coronavirus outbreak-June 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

According to the Iranian Resistance, <\/span>the COVID-19<\/a> death toll in Iran has surged <\/span>past <\/span>50,900<\/a> as of Thursday<\/span>.<\/span> T<\/span>his is <\/span>the<\/span> tip of the <\/span>iceberg<\/span>. The <\/span>regime\u2019s wrong policies and mishandling of this <\/span>crisis will result in a humanitarian tragedy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime denied the existence of COVID-19 in Iran for <\/span>months to have a larger turnout at its sham parliamentary elections. <\/span>The m<\/span>ullahs were expecting <\/span>a low turnout and a general boycott, since their conflict with people following the two nationwide uprisings in November 2019 and January 2018 reached an irreversible point<\/span>, with people calling unanimously for regime change.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to an international campaign led by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI \/ MEK)<\/a> and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) <\/a><\/span>publishing the true statistics <\/span>of the COVID-19 and mounting pressure on the regime, it was forced to announce the virus<\/span>\u2019<\/span> existence. Yet, the regime did not issue a nationwide quarantine <\/span>quickly<\/span>,<\/span> and when it did, it was not backed with financial support. This resulted in more <\/span>Iranian people, already grappling with poverty and the novel coronavirus<\/span>,<\/span> to<\/span> go under more pressure. Therefore, fearing a nationwide uprising an<\/span>d<\/span> to avoid sparking the restive society the regime forced <\/span>people <\/span>back to work.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The heightened infection rates point to the accuracy of early warnings that Tehran\u2019s economic re-opening plans were premature.<\/span> The Javan daily, which belongs to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC<\/a>)<\/span>, <\/span>published a report <\/span>by the Kermanshah Medical Science<\/span> University which reads: \u201c<\/span>The number of new hospitalized <\/span>coronavirus cases <\/span>have more than doubled in comparison to last month, and also the number of COVID-19 deaths has increased in the past one or two weeks. The number of dire patients is increasing with each passing day<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> policy<\/span> in handling the coronavirus<\/span>, <\/span>for <\/span>controlling<\/span> the restive Iranian society and achiev<\/span>ing<\/span> its economic <\/span>goal, is<\/span> the <\/span>herd immunity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, according to the statistics <\/span>published by the Iranian Resistance and even considering <\/span>the regime\u2019s official statistics<\/span>, over 50,000 deaths and the mounting infection rate, <\/span>and the regime\u2019s herd immunity policy <\/span>confirm<\/span> what\u2019s going on in Iran is just the tip of <\/span>the <\/span>iceberg. The state-run media <\/span>now acknowledge this tragic reality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard, the state-run <\/span>Ayneh<\/span> Jam news agency, in an article published on <\/span>June 11, while referring to the regime\u2019s contradictory decisions in handling the coronavirus wrote: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>A look at the contradictions of decision-making in dealing with the coronavirus has reinforced the notion that we are now facing ‘herd immunity’ to overcome the crisis. This is due to the country’s rapid transition from semi-quarantine conditions and the reopening of many jobs and the initial reduction in warnings about the disease. According to the latest statistics recently released by the country’s health authorities, between 10 and 15 percent of Iranians have been infected with the COVID-19<\/a>. That’s about 12 million people.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>This means that the disease has increased 60 times each month. If the novel coronavirus continues to rise with the same p<\/span>ace<\/span>, (especially with the rise in the number of patients in recent weeks), it looks like at least 50 percent of the Iranian society will be affected by the end of July<\/span>,\u201d the report added.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In another part, while reviewing the regime\u2019s herd i<\/span>mmunity <\/span>which certainly increases the infection rate and the number of the COVID-19 patients, <\/span>the report reads: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>The volume of pressure on the health complex and medical centers during June and July will be more than ever, a body that has endured all the shortcomings during the last <\/span>four<\/span> months, has made significant efforts in the field of disease management and <\/span>is<\/span> reaching the end of <\/span>its <\/span>power and capacity<\/span>. T<\/span>hey will be exhausted; and even out of the service circle<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The greater concern is that relying on herd immunity policy exposes more people to the threat of this virus, particularly the elderly and the sick who are more vulnerable, and this will certainly result <\/span>in more<\/span> deaths. In addition, due to the unknown nature of the virus, in case of its crossing of the crisis point, it is possible that no management is possible on it and its destructive effects are far more than the gradual progression of the disease in the country<\/span>,\u201d the report added.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another article published<\/a> by the state-run daily <\/span>Mostaghel<\/span> on its website on June 1,<\/span> quot<\/span>ed<\/span> Dr. Hassan <\/span>Rafiei<\/span> as saying: \u201c<\/span>Iran [regime] does not have the right conditions to fight post-coronavirus complications and has serious problems with its most basic infrastructure. Democracy is the first cornerstone of cohesion, unity, empathy, and national development that does not exist in Iran.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard, in an article on May 26, the s<\/span>tate-run daily <\/span>Resalat<\/span> referred to the<\/span> regime\u2019s<\/span> mismanagement<\/span> of the COVID-19 crisis <\/span>and warned: \u201c<\/span>Only an excuse is needed.
