Protests in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The ongoing protests in Iraq, <\/span>Afghanistan,<\/span> and Lebanon against corruption<\/span> and particularly Iran\u2019s meddling in these countries is a heavy blow to the <\/span>Iranian regime\u2019s so-called <\/span>strategic depth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The new wave of protests in Syria, particularly <\/span>in regions under Bashar-al Assad\u2019s control with <\/span>the majority of<\/span> Alawi <\/span>Shiite residents<\/span>,<\/span> is a serious blow to the Iranian regime\u2019s meddling in this country.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime<\/span> actively participated in oppressing Syrian people <\/span>since the very first days <\/span>of <\/span>the<\/span> Syrian nationwide <\/span>uprising in 2011,<\/span> which was part of the <\/span>Arab Spring<\/span>. The regime\u2019s goal was to <\/span>keep <\/span>Bashar-al Assad, <\/span>its <\/span>longstanding ally<\/span>,<\/span> in power. The Iranian regime\u2019s devastating role in Sy<\/span>ria <\/span>turned this country into ruin, with millions of deaths<\/span> and injuries. <\/span>Members of the regime\u2019s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and its proxy terrorist groups such as Hezbollah<\/span> and<\/span> Iraqi Popular Mobilization Force<\/span> (PMF) committed heinous crimes in Syria, such as killing innocent civilians, <\/span>torturing,<\/span> and raping children, <\/span>men<\/span> and women.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In another development, following a long silence <\/span>due to the <\/span>coronavirus pandemic, <\/span>the <\/span>people of Lebanon <\/span>took <\/span>to<\/span> the<\/span> streets, protesting <\/span>government corruption and Hezbollah\u2019s devastating role in their country, which indeed implements the Iranian regime\u2019s strateg<\/span>ies. People tore picture<\/span>s<\/span> of Hezbollah<\/a>\u2019s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah<\/span> and<\/span> called for Hezbollah to be disarmed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the<\/span> nationwide uprising <\/span>which <\/span>erupted in Iraq in early October<\/span> entered its new phase within the last few days. <\/span>The main goal of the protests is to free their country and to end the Iranian regime\u2019s deadly meddling in Iraq<\/span>. The Iranian regime <\/span>gradually occupied Iraq after the second Gulf War in 2001. <\/span>Qassem<\/span> Soleimani, now <\/span>the <\/span>eliminated commander of the IRGC\u2019s<\/a> extraterritorial <\/span>Quds Force<\/a>, <\/span>played a key role in implementing <\/span>the <\/span>regime\u2019s dominance in Iraq and killing its people.\u00a0<\/span> Now after <\/span>month<\/span>s<\/span> of protests<\/span>, the <\/span>new Iraq government is<\/span> trying to satisfy <\/span>protestors <\/span>and<\/span> also<\/span> get close<\/span>r<\/span> to the United States<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run <\/span>Keyhan<\/span> daily, known as the mouthpiece of the regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei in <\/span>an article on <\/span>June 9, in this regard wrote: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Voting for the continued presence of Americans, the elimination of popular forces, and distancing oneself from real allies (the three main US demands in the talks) may in the first few months bring fading sweetness of Trump’s financial aid to Iraqis through its allies in the regime, but the sweetness of these dollars will soon be replaced by the bitterness of the return of terror and insecurity and the ISIS monster. Then, there <\/span>will be <\/span>no PMF <\/span>to <\/span>fight ISIS<\/span>,<\/span> and the U.S. <\/span>will be <\/span>far<\/span> away <\/span>and thus unable <\/span>to help [Iraq].<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is <\/span>a <\/span>clear <\/span>threat of <\/span>terrorism<\/span>,<\/span> yet<\/span> it <\/span>shows the regime\u2019s <\/span>destitution. Indeed, the regime\u2019s deadly meddling in Iraq and Syria and leading a sectarian war and most importantly<\/span> the<\/span> mullahs\u2019 medieval and reactionary interpretation of Islam paved the way for the Islamic State to emerge.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ali <\/span>Bigdeli<\/span>, one of the regime\u2019s experts, said in an article published on November 30, 2019, in the state-run Jahan-e <\/span>Sanat<\/span> daily: \u201cThe recent incidents in Iraq send different messages. Yet, the most important message is to Iran. If this crisis continues in Iraq, Iran will receive more disappointing messages.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Iraq, <\/span>reports from Afghanistan indicate there have been protests in front of the regime\u2019s embassy<\/span> and<\/span> consulate<\/span>s<\/span> in different parts of Afghanistan, with people demanding the closure of the Iranian <\/span>regime\u2019s diplomatic centers<\/span>. These protests erupted following the regime\u2019s recent crimes of killing<\/span> Afghans<\/span>, burning a car <\/span>with <\/span>Afghan migrants in Iran, and drowning another 50 migrants who had gone to Iran in <\/span>the <\/span>hope of finding work and funding their deprived families.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, Republicans presented a new bill to the US<\/span>.<\/span> Congress call<\/span>ed<\/span> the Comprehensive Sanctions Package, which they called “the largest sanctions against the regime.”<\/span> This package demands the United States government <\/span>l<\/span>ist Iranian-backed proxy militias in Iraq and Syria as “foreign terrorist organizations.”<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These new sanctions along with the uprisings in these countries tightens the noose around the regime\u2019s neck and further pushes <\/span>it into <\/span>a<\/span> strategic d<\/span>ecline<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime\u2019s founder, Ruhollah Khomeini<\/span>,<\/span> and his successor have long dreamed of an Islamic empire<\/span>. In fact<\/span>,<\/span> the regime is based on two pillars: domestic oppression and <\/span>export of <\/span>terrorism<\/span>. For pursing its dream of an Islamic <\/span>empire,<\/span> the mullahs\u2019 regime <\/span>considers Iraq, <\/span>Lebanon<\/span> and Syria as its strategic depth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>nationwide Iran protests in November, which <\/span>rattled <\/span>the regime\u2019s foundations<\/span>,<\/span> were<\/span> a major blow to the regime\u2019s <\/span>pillar of domestic oppression<\/span>. <\/span>The nationwide uprising<\/span>s<\/span> in Iran<\/span>, ongoing <\/span>protests,<\/span> and the general boycott of the regime\u2019s sham parliamentary elections <\/span>in February show that the Iranian people\u2019s conflict with the regime has reached an irreversible<\/span> point. The restive Iranian society now needs an<\/span>y<\/span> spark to explode.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The protests in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon are in line with<\/span> the Iranian people\u2019s <\/span>uprising. The elimination of Qassem Soleimani, as the regime\u2019s <\/span>irreplaceable terror mastermind<\/span>,<\/span> was a major blow to the regime\u2019s <\/span>so-called strategic depth.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These recent<\/span> developments <\/span>reveal<\/span> the regime’s weakness in countries that have been the center of the mullahs’ invasion for years. Now, due to severe pressure on the regime to withdraw from Syria and Iraq, its economic failure due to the sanctions and the inability to meet the huge costs of its mercenaries in the countries, the regime is no longer able to rely on terrorism and hostage-taking, as in the past. If it does<\/span>,<\/span> it will be practically more isolated <\/span>than before<\/span>. This isolation reflects the fact that the regime’s policy of regional influence and strategic depth has been severely damaged.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
