For years, the terrorist Quds Force of the IRGC has been using Mahan Air passenger planes to transport weapons and ammunition to Syria in violation of all international law.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Amir <\/span>Assadolahi<\/span>, a pilot of the <\/span>Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a> affiliated Mahan <\/span>A<\/span>ir, acknowledged he had transferred <\/span>Qassem<\/span><\/a> Soleimani,<\/span> the<\/span> eliminated commander of <\/span>the <\/span>IRGC Quds <\/span>F<\/span>orce, <\/span>with \u201c<\/span>seven<\/span> tons\u201d of \u201cbanned cargo<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d meaning weapons, along with 200 passengers on board to Syria in June 2013.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his interview with the <\/span>state-run<\/span> Young Journalists Club <\/span>news agency<\/span>, while confirming Soleimani personally oversaw <\/span>the <\/span>transfer of <\/span>weapons to Syria<\/span>, <\/span>Assadolahi<\/span> said: \u201cWhile flying over Baghdad, U.S. forces <\/span>forced us to land at Baghdad airport. During Iraqi and American inspections, <\/span>I asked Haji <\/span>Qassem<\/span> to wear the uniform of our flight engineer [so no one would recognize him]<\/span>. They were after him. When<\/span> the<\/span> American<\/span>s<\/span> could<\/span> not find him<\/span> and left<\/span>,<\/span> the<\/span> Iraqis<\/span> asked to check our cargo. It was a very tough moment. We went to see the cargo, I opened my wallet and showed <\/span>the <\/span>dollars to the Iraqi inspector<\/span>, he winked at me<\/span>,<\/span> took the dollars and left.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian reg<\/span>ime entered the Syrian conflict and has been fighting and wasting the Iranian people\u2019s resources to prop up <\/span>Bashar-al Assad\u2019s regime. The Iranian Resistance has repeatedly said how the regime has been using all means to export terrorism. In this case, using an airplane with over 200 passengers <\/span>to carry military cargo and a terrorist is tantamount to using human shield<\/span>s<\/span> and is banned under international law and regulations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In a special <\/span>report<\/span><\/a> in <\/span>November 2017, the National Council of Resistance of Iran wrote: \u201c<\/span>Iranian airline companies play an important role in Iran\u2019s interference in the countries of the region, including the transfer of personnel and logistics for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and proxy militias<\/span>\u2026.<\/span>The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran has completed a study on this company, which quickly became one of the largest companies in Iran. The study demonstrates that while Mahan is ostensibly a private company, it has had extensive relationships with the highest-ranking government officials since the company\u2019s first days of operation. Both the launch and the expansion of the company has involved widespread use of government facilities. Among the most significant findings of the report was that Mahan Air Corporation does not merely cooperate with the IRGC<\/a> and the <\/span>Qods<\/span> Force, but<\/span> is wholly owned and controlled by them.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report continue<\/span>d<\/span>: \u201c<\/span>Since 2011, there has been an upsurge in Iranian meddling in Syria, following that country\u2019s uprising against the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad. Consequently, Mahan has been providing the <\/span>Qods<\/span> Force with the means to transfer foreign personnel and agents to Syria, along with equipment for the Syrian regime and for Hezbollah in Lebanon. Trips by IRGC and <\/span>Qods<\/span> Force commanders to Damascus are handled by Mahan Airlines.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The United States Department of State <\/span>in<\/span> October 2011<\/span> designated<\/span><\/a> Mahan Air <\/span>for \u201cproviding financial, material, and technological support to the IRGC. It has since repeatedly engaged, or attempted to engage, in activities or transactions that pose a risk of materially contributing to the proliferation of WMD or their means of delivery by shipping UN-restricted missile and nuclear items to Iran.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In another <\/span>report<\/span><\/a> on <\/span>January 24, 2019<\/span>, the<\/span> State Department wrote: \u201cT<\/span>he United States sanctioned Iranian commercial airline Mahan Air in 2011 for providing financial, material, and technological support to the IRGC-QF<\/a>. Mahan has facilitated the IRGC-QF\u2019s military operations in Syria by conducting hundreds of <\/span>flights from Tehran to Damascus since 2012. Every country that permits Mahan Air to fly to its airports should understand Mahan Air\u2019s history of violating international civil aviation norms, and every company supporting Mahan should know they run the risk of incurring U.S. sanctions.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
