The United Nations Human Rights Council<\/span>,<\/span> during its session on June 22, <\/span>extended the mandate of <\/span>Javaid<\/span> R<\/span>e<\/span>hman, the Special Rapporteur <\/span>on the situation of<\/span> human rights in Iran.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While <\/span>referring to the OHCHR resolution from 2011 until now, and the regime\u2019s lack of cooperation and increase of human rights viol<\/span>ations, the Council decided to exten<\/span>d<\/span> Mr. R<\/span>e<\/span>hman\u2019s mandate for another year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the voting start<\/span>ed<\/span>, <\/span>Denmark\u2019s representative expressed concern over the human rights situation in Iran, particularly <\/span>the <\/span>regime\u2019s ongoing use of capital punishment, and urged <\/span>the <\/span>Special Rapporteur to closely monitor <\/span>the h<\/span>uman <\/span>r<\/span>ights situation in Iran.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this <\/span>resolution<\/span><\/a>, the Council urged the Iranian regime to \u201c<\/span>cooperate fully with the Special Rapporteur and to permit access to visit the country and to provide all information necessary to allow the fulfilment of the mandate<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While trying to cover<\/span> up <\/span>the <\/span>deplorable human rights conditions, and infuriated <\/span>over this resolution, the regime\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs <\/span>claimed <\/span>that <\/span>this<\/span> resolution <\/span>is based on <\/span>a \u201cselective attitude and political goals.\u201d The regime\u2019s Judiciary, which is directly involved in human rights violations, on its affiliated <\/span>Mizan<\/span> website on Monday wrote: \u201cThe Human Right<\/span>s<\/span> Council has <\/span>agreed to extend <\/span>Javaid<\/span> R<\/span>e<\/span>hman\u2019s mandate. While his reports about Iran have been completely biased.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Previously, Mr. R<\/span>e<\/span>hman, <\/span>in a report release<\/span>d<\/span> on February 19, said he was shocked at the number of deaths, acute injuries, and ill-treatment of persons detained during the November Iran protests. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Rights groups, such as the Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM)<\/span> that closely monitors human rights situation in Iran<\/span>, have issued various reports on the Iranian regime\u2019s gross human rights violations. Iran HRM<\/span> on June 14 reported that \u201c<\/span>More than 100 inmates have been executed in Iran from January to mid-June 2020.<\/span>\u201d \u201c<\/span>At least 30 of these executions have been announced by official and semi-official press and media, and the other 79 were carried out in secret. At least two women were hanged in January 2020.\u00a0 One of them was identified as <\/span>Maliheh<\/span> Haj <\/span>Hassani<\/span>, hanged in <\/span>Adelabad<\/span> Prison in Shiraz, capital of Fars Province, southern Iran. The state-run press identified the other woman by her first name, Sara. The women, 32, was hanged in the Central Prison of Mashhad, capital of <\/span>Razavi<\/span> Khorasan Province, northeastern Iran<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In its <\/span>monthly<\/span><\/a> report of May 2020, Iran HRM <\/span>wrote: \u201c<\/span>In a new wave of crackdown in Iran, the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and the IRGC Intelligence Organization have begun arresting and summoning large numbers of young activists, especially the families and supporters of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>. Many have been sent to prisons, and some have been temporarily released on bail while signing a form pledging not to participate in any anti-regime activities. Among those arrested were Ali <\/span>Younesi<\/span> and Amir-Hossein Moradi, award-winning students at Sharif University of Technology, who have been arrested and detained on trumped-up charges of having ties with the PMOI\/MEK<\/a>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fearing the restive Iranian <\/span>society, the regime has resorted to more violence to quell the society. The regime continues its human rights violations, particularly executions, arbitrary <\/span>arrests<\/span> and mistreating prisoners, because one of the regime\u2019s pillars of existence and only way to prolong its life is oppression. <\/span>Now Iranian prisoners, particularly <\/span>political prisoners and those arrested during the November protests, along with COVID-19 crisis<\/a>, <\/span>are at <\/span>imminent threat of execution and torture. Therefore, it is the international community\u2019s <\/span>responsibility to act <\/span>to <\/span>avoid a humanitarian catastrophe.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs.\u202f<\/span>Maryam Rajavi<\/span><\/a>, the president-elect of\u202f<\/span>the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><\/a>,\u202fha<\/span>s<\/span> repeatedly urged the UN\u202fSecretary General to \u201cdispatch an international fact-finding mission to Iran to investigate the conditions of death and injury of protesters in November and visit Iranian prisons and prisoners.\u201d\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
