Iran: women living in holes and canals<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Iranian regime has brought nothing but poverty and destruction for Iranian people. Iranian women <\/span>are under even greater pressure, <\/span>due to the regime\u2019s misogynist nature<\/span>. The current situation of the Iranian society has forced <\/span>some Iranian <\/span>women to live in holes and canals, according to <\/span>a regime expert.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with the state-run <\/span>Etemadonline<\/span><\/a> website, <\/span>Mohammad Reza <\/span>Mahboubfar<\/span> said: \u201cSome women heads of household<\/span>s have no shelter<\/span> and<\/span> are forced to live in ruins, destroyed buildings, <\/span>shantytowns, tents, underground holes and canals. Female slumdwellers <\/span>do <\/span>not have<\/span> appropriate housing.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iran is one of the richest countries in <\/span>the <\/span>world in terms of natural resources. Yet, the Iranian regime has plundered <\/span>the <\/span>nation<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> wealth to <\/span>pursue its warmongering policies such as <\/span>helping its<\/span> terrorist proxy groups in other countries, <\/span>obtain<\/span>ing<\/span> a nuclear <\/span>bomb,<\/span> and <\/span>increas<\/span>ing<\/span> suppression. Th<\/span>ese policies <\/span>have<\/span> forced the Iranian people into poverty. Many Iranians are forced to become slumdwellers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard<\/span>,<\/span> Mahboubfar<\/span> said: \u201c<\/span>In the past, the number of <\/span>slumdwellers <\/span>was<\/span> said to be around 25 million, but today it has risen to 38 million. We can <\/span>surely<\/span> say that <\/span>slumdwellers<\/span> in Tehran ha<\/span>ve<\/span> increased by 60%<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian society grapples with poverty and now the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed<\/span> the<\/span> lives of over 60,000 people. Iranian women <\/span>have<\/span> a more deplorable condition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>The number of women heads of households in the country has increased, and these people are facing many problems<\/span> because of living in shanty towns, rising <\/span>inflation, and living crisis, especially housing. Some of these women, who are forced <\/span>to live on the<\/span> outskirts of the cit<\/span>ies<\/span>, are severely threatened by violence such as violence against women, addiction, selling babies <\/span>and [prostitution]<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d <\/span>Mahboubfar<\/span> added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to this regime expert, w<\/span>omen heads of households live mostly in the suburbs, southeast and southwest of Tehran and around cemeteries, in <\/span>Islamshahr<\/span>, <\/span>Pakdasht<\/span>, <\/span>Varamin<\/span>, etc.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Women\u2019s Committee<\/a> of the National Council of Resistance of Iran<\/span> (NCRI<\/a>)<\/span> in a statement on April 15 <\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a>: \u201c<\/span>One sector of society that suffers dual economic pressure is nearly four million female breadwinners, most of whom live under the absolute poverty line.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> state-run Javan daily<\/span>, in an article on April 13, 2020,<\/span> wrote<\/span>:<\/span> \u201cOne of the worst economically affected sectors by the Coronavirus outbreak are women heads of household<\/span>.<\/span> T<\/span>heir true (suffering) could be seen among peddlers in subways, carrying heavy goods from one car to another, trying to sell their goods to female passengers on the metro. Female breadwinners, working in underground workshops, either those who have lost their husbands or those who lack support, as well as girls who need to support themselves, are very vulnerable in such a situation.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>April<\/span> 20<\/span>, as the Iranian society was facing the coronavirus pandemic<\/span>, a shocking video circulated online, showing a group of poor \u201c<\/span>underground dwellers<\/span><\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span> This shocking <\/span>footage was filmed<\/span> on <\/span>March 16, 2020 and<\/span> published on April 20 on the state-run website of <\/span>Hamshahri<\/span> TV. Although the issue of the underground<\/span> dwelling<\/span> of the unfortunate victims of addiction is not new, the release of this film attracted a lot of attention on social media. It caused a wave of public disgust<\/span> at the regime<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The NCRI, in a shocking report <\/span>in <\/span>September 2019, revealed that as the Iranian economy<\/span> fails<\/span> due to the regime\u2019s wrong policies, lucrative business of selling bodily organs increases.\u00a0<\/span> State-run newspaper <\/span>Mashregh<\/span> reported on February 28, 2017 that regarding the sale of kidneys by people in extreme poverty, Dr. Hossein Ali <\/span>Shahriari<\/span>, <\/span>then\u00a0<\/span> member of the Health Commission of the Majlis (parliament)<\/span>,<\/span> said: \u201cThere is nothing wrong when a person who lives in poverty, and by receiving 200 to 300 million <\/span>rials<\/span> ($2,000 to $3,000 at the exchange rate<\/span> of the time<\/span>) transforms his life.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many women are selling their kidneys to make their livings<\/span>. <\/span>Hossein <\/span>Bigl<\/span>a<\/span>ri<\/span>, director of the Association of Special and Incurable Patients in Kermanshah<\/span>, western Iran<\/span>, in an interview in 2014 said: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Youth, 20 to 30-year-olds, including young girls, come to us to sell their kidneys.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to poverty, the regime\u2019s misogynist constitution has legalized violence against women. The so-called \u201c<\/span>honor killings<\/span>,<\/span><\/a>\u201d <\/span>such as <\/span>the <\/span>beheading of 1<\/span>3<\/span>-year-old Romina Ashrafi by her father, or Fatemeh Ameri being killed <\/span>with <\/span>an ax<\/span>e<\/span> by her father in recent weeks, <\/span>are <\/span>the outcome<\/span>s<\/span> of the oppressive and medieval policies and laws of the misogynist clerical regime that encourage and promote violence against women and girls<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a nutshell, the regime\u2019s institutionalized corruption<\/span>, funding <\/span>of terrorism and wasting national resources on unnecessary projects such as <\/span>its <\/span>nuclear program, along with the regime<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> misogynist <\/span>nature<\/span>,<\/span> has turned Iran into<\/span> a<\/span> hell for Iranian women. For the very same reason, the Iranian women are on the forefront of <\/span>the <\/span>struggle against the religious <\/span>fascism. Hundreds of thousands of women have sacrificed their lives, and <\/span>they have been<\/span> leading the Iranian Resistance movement <\/span>against the mullahs\u2019 regime.\u00a0 The presence of the Iranian women at the forefront of the Iran protests in November and January <\/span>confirms<\/span> women\u2019s leading role in Iranian people\u2019s quest for freedom.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
