Iran Regime\u2019s New Report on Ukrainian Airliner Crash Underlines Need for Independent International Inquiry<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nearly <\/span>six<\/span> months<\/span> after shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet<\/a>, killing all 176 passengers aboard, the Iranian regime<\/span> published a ridiculous report <\/span>blaming a<\/span>n <\/span>operato<\/span>r<\/span>, who had \u201cnot obtained a license.\u201d <\/span>Th<\/span>e publication of such a bogus <\/span>report<\/span> underlines the necessity of an independent international inquiry about this <\/span>tragedy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run IRNA news agency, quot<\/span>ed<\/span> Gholam<\/span>-Abbas <\/span>Torki<\/span>,<\/span> Tehran\u2019s Military prosecutor<\/span>, who has published this report<\/span>,<\/span> as saying: <\/span>\u201cThe defense system\u2019s operator <\/span>shot without obtaining a license from the network<\/span>. T<\/span>his was the huge mistake. <\/span>When the system operator identifies a target as a threatening target, it must notify its superior, which is the defense network, and act on the network’s command.<\/span> Two missiles were fired by the defense system, and experts say one of the missiles had no effect on the plane and the other exploded near the plane.<\/span> Twenty-six <\/span>seconds is the distance between the first and second shots, but unfortunately<\/span> even during this <\/span>time <\/span>the <\/span>operator <\/span>d<\/span>id <\/span>not get permission to shoot the second shot from the network.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Torki\u2019s<\/span> remarks and the mullahs\u2019 regime report are failed attempts to cover<\/span> up and whitewash the role of the regime\u2019s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC<\/a>) in this tragedy and to help top officials, such as the regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani<\/span>, get away from the consequences of this crime against humanity. Yet, <\/span>Torki\u2019s<\/span> remarks confirm that this tragedy was preventable.<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>January 11, after three days of consecutive denial and cover-up, the Iranian regime admitted <\/span>it has shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, a Boeing 737\u2013800, <\/span>en<\/span> route from Tehran International Airport to Kyiv with an anti-aircraft missile.<\/span> Previously, the regime\u2019s officials said the airplane crashed due to some technical issues. <\/span>This bogus claim was rapidly rejected by heads of states, including those of the United States and Canada, the la<\/span>t<\/span>ter having dozens of its citizens among the victims.\u00a0<\/span> The regime\u2019s acknowledgment, and its crime in downing this passenger jet and hiding it, sparked <\/span>a <\/span>new series of protests, with the university students at their forefront<\/span>. Protesters called for regime change and identified the mullahs\u2019 regime as the root to all <\/span>cris<\/span>e<\/span>s including<\/span> the tragedy of shooting down Ukrainian airliners.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>)<\/span>,<\/span> in this regard<\/span> on January 11<\/span> said<\/span>: \u201c<\/span>Downing of passenger jet is a major crime that people will neither forgive nor forget<\/span>. <\/span>The regime had given advance warning about its missile attack on American bases to the Iraqi government <\/span>and<\/span> its military <\/span>and<\/span> through them to the US. But did not issue any advance notice to our compatriots <\/span>and<\/span> did not cancel passenger flights<\/span> in Iran:\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
