NCRI Women’s committee Monthly Report June 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The <\/span>latest<\/span> monthly <\/span>report<\/span><\/a> by the Women\u2019s Committee<\/a> of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>) <\/span>confirms the misogynous mullahs\u2019 regime<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> ongoing violation<\/span>s<\/span> of Iranian women\u2019s righ<\/span>ts. According to this report, the regime has increased its pressure on <\/span>female political prisoners <\/span>amid <\/span>the <\/span>coronavirus outbreak.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While referring to the<\/span> Iranian prisoners<\/span>\u2019<\/span> deplorable conditions amid the COVID-19 outbreak<\/a> and the regime\u2019s inaction in this regard, <\/span>the <\/span>NCRI Women\u2019s Committee<\/a> wrote: \u201c<\/span>The situation of prisoners is much worse than other people and they are more vulnerable to the disease. Female prisoners are under double pressure due to horrible conditions in prisons, shortage of hygienic products and denial of access to medicine, health care and medical treatment.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Resistant political prisoners, such as Maryam Akbari <\/span>Monfared<\/span> and <\/span>Atena<\/span> Daemi<\/span>, who are already serving their sentences in jail, were summoned to court and arraigned with new charges in new cases fabricated against them and handed down unjust sentences such as flogging<\/span>,\u201d read the report.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>In addition to unjust sentences, women are practically put at risk of infection and death due to the coronavirus when they are imprisoned on security charges despite the pandemic<\/span>,\u201d <\/span>the <\/span>NCRI<\/a> Women\u2019s Committee asserted.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Prison conditions are grim in <\/span>Evin<\/span>, <\/span>Qarchak<\/span>, <\/span>Sepidar<\/span> (in Ahvaz), and other cities. Not only political prisoners are not released or sent on furlough, but for those who were able to use the prison leave, they have been returned to prison after their leave expired and are held in the quarantine ward for months<\/span>,\u201d the report further added.<\/span><\/p>\n

While referring to the regime\u2019s mistreatment of female political prisoners, the report added: \u201cT<\/span>he prisoners who have been sent to <\/span>Qarchak<\/span> Prison in <\/span>Varamin<\/span>, as punishment or to internal exile, are held in abysmal conditions. Abruptly transferred to <\/span>Qarchak<\/span> Prison on April 29, Zeinab <\/span>Jalalian<\/span> has been infected with the coronavirus and her life is in serious danger. Another political prisoner, <\/span>Forough<\/span> Taqipour<\/span> who was transferred to <\/span>Qarchak<\/span> in February has also contracted the virus and is serving her sentence in dire conditions in this prison.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the <\/span>latest <\/span>report published by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/a><\/span> (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>)<\/span>,<\/span> the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a> has so far claimed <\/span>the <\/span>lives of nearly 67,000<\/a> people across Iran. The regime, since the beginning of the outbreak, resorted to <\/span>cover-up and inaction. The authorities refused to release prisoners<\/span>, particularly political prisoners, who were much more vulnerable to the virus due to the prison conditions. Instead, the regime increased its arbitrary arrests<\/span>,<\/span> and when prisoners protested<\/span>,<\/span> the regime\u2019s security forces shot them. Some of the prisoners who were able to <\/span>escape from prisons during prisons riots, such as Mostafa <\/span>Salimi<\/span>, were executed by the regime <\/span>after they were caught <\/span>to terrify the prisoners.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NCRI<\/a> President-elect Mrs. Maryam <\/a><\/span>Rajavi<\/span><\/a> has <\/span>stated<\/span>: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Given the accelerating spread of the coronavirus across Iran, prison conditions are alarming. I urge the UN Secretary General, Security <\/span>Council, <\/span>and<\/span> other relevant international agencies to help stop a humanitarian catastrophe in the regime\u2019s prisons.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
