Iran: Coronavirus Update, Over 69,800 Deaths, July 12, 2020, 6:00 PM CESTNUMBER OF VICTIMS (AS OF July 1<\/strong>2<\/strong>, 2020, 6:00 PM CEST):<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI-MEK)<\/a>\u00a0announced this afternoon, July 12, 2020, that Coronavirus has taken the lives of more than\u00a069,<\/strong>8<\/strong>00\u00a0<\/strong>in 342 cities across Iran. The death toll in various provinces include:17,450 in Tehran, 5,250 in Khorasan Razavi, 5,245 in Khuzestan, 2,530 in Lorestan, 2,155 in Sistan and Baluchistan, 2,070 in West Azerbaijan, 1,760 in Golestan, 1,745 in Hamedan, 1,610 in Fars, 1,390 in Kurdistan and 880 in Kerman. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.<\/p>\n

On July 17, advocates for democracy in Iran will be holding a series of gatherings across five continents, which will be simultaneously broadcast under the title, \u201cFree Iran Global Summit.<\/a>\u201d The event, organized by the\u00a0National Council of Resistance of Iran<\/a>\u00a0(NCRI), takes the place of the centralized rally that had previously been held for 15 consecutive years near the coalition\u2019s headquarters in France. The change in format was made necessary by the coronavirus pandemic, but the organizers anticipate that the emphasis on remote participation will actually increase the overall numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lack of Water Breaks Backs of Women in Sistan and Baluchestan<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sistan and Baluchestan is the most deprived province of Iran, and its people must confront poverty and the\u00a0lack of basic infrastructure<\/a>, including an adequate water system. Girls and women in Sistan and Baluchestan suffer from various diseases as a result of the water shortages.<\/p>\n

Sistan and Baluchestan Province has a unique potential in the mining sector due to its location on the world\u2019s metal and mineral belts, with rich reserves such as copper, chromite, manganese, and gold. However, because of the corruption of and looting by the ruling authorities, residents of this province are among the poorest people in Iran.<\/p>\n

The Propaganda Campaign That Has Withered<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the past four decades, the theocratic regime in Iran has endeavored to slander its main democratic opposition, the\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI)<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 also referred to as the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) \u2013 in order to foster the perception that there is no viable alternative to the ruling dictatorship. There are, however, growing indications that Tehran\u2019s ferocious demonization campaign against the MEK has lost much of its strategic effectiveness. Characterized by censorship and violent persecution of pro-MEK sentiment in Iran and a smear campaign in the Western media, the effort has failed to erase the power of the MEK\u2019s message of hope and change. Despite attempts to downplay and\/or eliminate the Mojahedin\u2019s influence in Iran and the Iranian diaspora, the movement\u2019s deep roots have prevailed.<\/p>\n
