The <\/span>People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/ MEK)<\/span><\/a> announced that the Covid-19 fatalities had <\/span>pass<\/span>ed 70,300<\/a>.<\/span> This is indeed a humanitarian catastrophe and <\/span>a <\/span>direct result of <\/span>Iranian <\/span>regime\u2019s inaction and cover-up.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While other governments described COVID-19<\/a> as a \u201cthreat,\u201d the regime\u2019s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei<\/span>,<\/span> called it a \u201ctest.\u201d In fact, Khamenei and his regime saw the COVID-19 as <\/span>an opportunity. Riddled with domestic, <\/span>regional,<\/span> and international cris<\/span>e<\/span>s<\/span>,<\/span> the regime <\/span>seized the moment and with its criminal policy of cover-up, then herd immunity,<\/span> it<\/span> has been desperately trying to use this pandemic a<\/span>s a tool of oppression.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s management of the COVID-19 crisis<\/a> in a glance shows how the regime has been using the COVID-19<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The regime covered up the existence of virus in Iran to have a larger turnout <\/span>in <\/span>it<\/span>s sham parliamentary elections and <\/span>marches marking the <\/span>anniversary<\/span> of the revolution<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    1. When forced to admit to COVID-19<\/span>‘s<\/span> existence, the regime ordered a national quarantine. This was not accompanied by taking serious restrictive measures and <\/span>financially supporting people <\/span>in <\/span>quarantine. This incomplete quarantine was only meant to spread fear and helplessness among<\/span> the<\/span> people.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      1. This policy failed when the regime saw how rapidly people, who lacked financial support <\/span>from the <\/span>government during <\/span>the <\/span>pandemic, were joining the army of starving people. This could ha<\/span>ve<\/span> started <\/span>a <\/span>new series of <\/span>protests. Unable to handle another round of uprisings, the regime forced people back to work.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        1. The regime\u2019s policy of \u201cherd immunity<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d or sending people to the COVID-19 killing zone<\/span>,<\/span> wa<\/span>s meant to oppress the <\/span>society and prevent its possible explosion. In this regard, the state-run <\/span>Mostaghel<\/span> daily wrote<\/a>: \u201c<\/span>While people are just trying to survive, this instrumental use of the COVID-19 to silence and control the anger of uncategorized starving people was so ruthlessly done that after six months, they not only have not achieved any success in controlling the virus, but according to the official statistics, the situation is out of control. Thousands of infections and hundreds of deaths per day confirm this. What other than this crisis could have diverted attention from people\u2019s immersed anger and unfulfilled demands?<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          The Iranian people\u2019s nationwide uprisings in November 2019<\/a> and January<\/a><\/span> 2020<\/span>, their unprecedented <\/span>boycott <\/span>of the regime\u2019s sham parliamentary elections in February, and ongoing protests by people from all walks of life laid this truth<\/span> bare<\/span> before the <\/span>mullahs\u2019 regime and the whole world: The Iranian people do not want this regime. These incidents also demonstrated the Iranian society\u2019s restiveness.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The regime\u2019s <\/span>malign activities <\/span>in the region <\/span>have created a united international front against this belligerent regime. <\/span>International s<\/span>anctions on the regime\u2019s illicit <\/span>ways of funding terrorism and its other evil projects ha<\/span>ve<\/span> paralyzed <\/span>the regime\u2019s<\/span> funding of terrorism.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          In such a situation<\/span>, and in fear of another uprising <\/span>the regime has opted to use COVID-19 to control the restive Iranian society<\/span>, which is the regime\u2019s main threat. <\/span>But it has failed. Khamenei\u2019s words about this issue are <\/span>notable<\/span>. During his recent meeting with his new parliament<\/span>,<\/span> he said: \u201cThe bitter truth is<\/span> that<\/span> the country has <\/span>far passed its first success in fighting <\/span>the <\/span>novel coronavirus.\u201d The regime\u2019s first success was its <\/span>cover-up of the crisis, bogusly claiming Iran under their rule is far more advanced in fighting the virus than the entire world.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Now the regime\u2019s own authorities warn of the post coronavirus situation. <\/span>T<\/span>he regime\u2019s Health Minister <\/span>Saeid<\/span> Namaki<\/span> last <\/span>Wednesday said: <\/span>\u201c<\/span>According to security reports, the fact that people resort to protests due to poverty and not being able to make ends meet is a serious matter. The President and the security forces must think about the economy and preventing protests.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          In addition, <\/span>Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC<\/a>), said: \u201cWith the novel coronavirus peaking once again, in various parts of the country we have once again concluded that the sensitivity level regarding this phenomenon must be increased.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The state-run daily Jahan-e <\/span>San\u2019at<\/span> wrote<\/span> on Monday: \u201c<\/span>The<\/span> officials encourage the people to wear masks. But so far, the Government has not even provided five masks to the poor sector. Because of the economic cycle, the Government has abandoned the people, and then it is afraid of an uprising by the hungr<\/span>y.<\/span> The lower classes have no other way to express their discontent over major and irremediable difficulties than to stage protests <\/span>on <\/span>the streets. With the COVID-19 crisis<\/a>, a new crisis has emerged for different sectors of society these days. The middle class no longer exists. All sectors do not have bread to eat. The situation for the people in cities is far worse than in Tehran because they feel the officials do not hear their voices. They have greater momentum in these regards. If the officials do not think of a solution, protests will erupt that cannot be contained.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The <\/span>Mostaghel<\/span> daily also wrote<\/span><\/a>: \u201c<\/span>This nation will not forget how it was abandoned during these bitter days.\u00a0 This will affect the upcoming incidents.<\/span> S<\/span>oon, people will come to their table for eating, and their despair of an empty table will lead them to protest on busy streets.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
