For years, the Iranian regime and its apologists, along with those in <\/span>the <\/span>West <\/span>who<\/span> favor the appeasement policy<\/span>,<\/span> have been promoting <\/span>a <\/span>false notion that there is no viable alternative to the Iranian regime. Thus, the world should wait for a change from within the regime. <\/span>Unfortunately, Western governments\u2019 appeasement policy<\/span> has had a heavy price for the Iranian people and their Resistance movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

This wrong policy gave the regime <\/span>a <\/span>chance to continue its <\/span>domestic <\/span>oppression, export of terrorism and killing dissidents abroad. <\/span>Designating the Iranian opposition <\/span>People\u2019s <\/span>Mojahedin<\/span> Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><\/a> as foreign terrorist organizations <\/span>was<\/span> only meant to appease the ayatollahs in Tehran. Although the Iranian Resistance was able to revoke <\/span>all<\/span> these allegations after long legal battles, these unjust designations paved the way for <\/span>the murder <\/span>of <\/span>MEK<\/span><\/a> members in Iraq<\/span> and the<\/span> arrest, imprisonment and execution of<\/span> MEK supporters in Iran, and most notabl<\/span>y<\/span> delayed the cause of regime change, because the leading force was shackled.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The regime\u2019s ominous rule has brought nothing but <\/span>destruction for the Iranian people. <\/span>The rising <\/span>COVID-19 death toll<\/span><\/a> in Iran, which is the direct result of the regime\u2019s deliberate inaction and cover-up, is <\/span>an undeniable fact of the Iranian people\u2019s suffering under the mullahs\u2019 regime. The economic hardships and the regime\u2019s brutal oppressive policies<\/span>, along with its terrorism should not be forgotten. On the other hand, after 40 years of pressure, Iranian society has turned <\/span>in<\/span>to a powder keg. The nationwide Iran protests in November, <\/span>public<\/span> boycott of the regime\u2019s sham parliamentary elections in February and ongoing protests by people from all walks of life across Iran are great indicators of the Iranian society\u2019s restiveness.\u00a0<\/span> Therefore, the regime intends to <\/span>use <\/span>the <\/span>novel coronavirus to control the society and spread despair among people <\/span>by <\/span>allowing more people to die.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In such a situation, the <\/span>MEK\u2019s Resistance Units<\/span><\/a> are playing <\/span>an important role in spreading <\/span>a <\/span>message of hope and resistance among the Iranian people. They have also show<\/span>n<\/span> their capability to lead the Iranian people\u2019s <\/span>uprising during the November protests.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, the international community must stand with the Iranian people and their organized Resistance movement. In this regard, <\/span>the <\/span>NCRI held its annual \u201cFree Iran Global Summit,\u201d for <\/span>three<\/span> days virtually. Over 1000 renowned politicians from different political tendencies in over 100 countries called this conference \u201c<\/span>unprecedented,\u201d \u201chistoric\u201d a \u201cstrong message of hope,\u201d showing there is viable alternative to the mullahs\u2019 regime. This alternative <\/span>was <\/span>able to connect over 30,000 locations together a<\/span>nd removed the obstacle of <\/span>the <\/span>pandemic to continue the struggle for freedom in Iran.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the participants of this event was former U.S. Senator Joe Li<\/span>e<\/span>berman. He reiterated that<\/span> regime change \u201c<\/span>will come from the resistance fighters in Iran<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Below is the full text of Senator <\/span><\/b>Joe <\/span><\/b>Lieberman\u2019s speech at<\/span><\/b> the<\/span><\/b> \u201cFree Iran Global Summit<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I am<\/span> really honored to be with you here today via Zoom. I bring <\/span>greetings<\/span> from my<\/span> wife Hada<\/span>s<\/span>sah who was thrilled to be with me in Ashraf last year. And I must say it was humbling because when we <\/span>left,<\/span> I was <\/span>convinced<\/span> that Hadas<\/span>s<\/span>ah was much more popular than I was. But she sends her love and her support to you.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is<\/span> an honor to be with the National Council of Resistance of Iran, the MEK, and particularly with your great <\/span>leader<\/span>, my dear friend, <\/span>Maryam <\/span>Rajavi<\/span><\/a>. This is an historic event. I <\/span>think<\/span> we’ve made it into the Guinness Book of World Records, I don’t believe there has ever been this large a global meeting on Zoom in history. So, it is really impressive. And let me tell you that an event like this does not happen without not only hard work but an organization such as the NCRI that once again has proven its determination, its competence, and its persistence to do things that others would never try to do. And that happens <\/span>because<\/span> of the commitment to principle and purpose that’s part of the <\/span>NCRI<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course,<\/span> no organization succeeds without a strong leader. And this organization has<\/span> the strongest of leaders in Maryam <\/span>Rajavi<\/span>, a woman of faith and principle and intellect, a modern woman, a woman of strength, and someone w<\/span>h<\/span>o most of all loves the people of Iran and works with a tremendous determination for that day that is coming soon, and it’s the purpose of our gathering today, when the people of Iran will be free. So, I am proud to join you in saying I stand with Maryam <\/span>Rajavi<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I want to say to all of you who are a part of this historic meeting that you have also joined the journey of history. <\/span>T<\/span>his is the struggle that has <\/span>gone on<\/span> since <\/span>creation between<\/span> tyranny and freedom<\/span>, and you have <\/span>joined<\/span> the side of freedom, freedom fighters all. And I say it started with creation because from the creation every person on earth was given the birthright, the right by <\/span>birth<\/span> to be free. This is what the <\/span>patriotic<\/span> founders of America put into the first words they wrote in their Declaration of Independence in 1776, that there are self-evident truths, and one of them is that every person has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, not as a result of the great men who wrote that document or the philosophers of <\/span>the <\/span>Enlightenment<\/span>, but as an endowment from our creator, an endowment from God. <\/span>That is<\/span> what motivated them, the heroes, the patriots of the American Revolution, to take on a fight that no one thought they could win. They were <\/span>fighting<\/span> for their freedom from the most powerful empire of the day, the British <\/span>E<\/span>mpire<\/span>. The same was true for the French Revolution in the 19<\/span>th<\/span> century, <\/span>and the tremendous resistance to Nazism and fascism during the 20th century, and of course the people fought against all odds <\/span>against<\/span> the tyranny of the Communist Soviet Union and<\/span> prevailed. All of you who are here today around the world and particularly the heroic resistance fighters in Iran, have put yourself in the path of those who <\/span>preceded<\/span>, fighting against odds that others thought were insurmountable, and yet emerging victorious as you are<\/span> tod<\/span>a<\/span>y.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You know, a great American leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, famously said the arc of the moral universe bends slowly but it bends toward justice. But he also <\/span>understood,<\/span> and he said that each of us has the <\/span>capacity<\/span> to bend that arc more quickly toward justice and freedom than it otherwise would bend. And <\/span>that is<\/span> what you are doing today. I am <\/span>proud<\/span> as an American to stand with the <\/span>NCRI<\/span><\/a>, the MEK, and Maryam <\/span>Rajavi<\/span>.<\/span> Y<\/span>our enemy, this fanatical, aggressive, oppressive, tyrannical, terrorist-supporting, corrupt regime in Iran is our enemy. As America looks for ways to change this regime, to end this threat to our security from the regime in Iran, there is no better ally, <\/span>there is<\/span> no more natural alliance than with the NCRI. Is there another opposition group, frankly are there many groups in the world who could have organized a meeting like this globally? I <\/span>do not<\/span> think so. Is there another group in opposition to the <\/span>Iranian<\/span> regime, on behalf of the Iranian people, with support in Iran, anywhere near the NCRI? No. <\/span>So, I say to the <\/span>skeptics<\/span> and the doubters and the paid <\/span>lobbyists<\/span> against the NCRI, what we are doing in America, those of us who so <\/span>strongly<\/span> support the NCRI and Maryam <\/span>Rajavi<\/span>, who you will hear during this day, is doing what is not only the interest in our universal <\/span>values<\/span> of freedom as expressed in the <\/span>Declaration<\/span> of Independence, but in the interests of the security o<\/span>f <\/span>the American people today whose security is threatened every day by the <\/span>fanatical<\/span> regime that controls Iran today.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The increasing courage and protests from the Iranian people <\/span>give<\/span> us hope that the day that we’re dreaming of is coming. There are still people who will say to you here in America, and<\/span> they will be here until we defeat<\/span> their arguments, “Okay, let’s go back to the table and negotiate with this regime in Tehran.” But they <\/span>have not<\/span> learned. We tried that and the regime in Iran still brutally suppresses the human rights of their people. The regime in Iran still steals the<\/span> wealth of the Iranian people, still sponsors terrorism around the region and the world, still sponsors aggression throughout the region and the world, still builds nuclear missiles and the weapons that they want to put on them to attack their neighbors, Europe, and yes, the United States of America.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me say therefore that we have reached a point where we can conclude after all that has been tried with this criminal syndicate that is holding the people and history and culture of Iran hostage, that everything that has been tried has not worked<\/span>. And since the regime in Tehran has proven itself that it will not change, we must together act to change the regime. It will come from the resistance fighters in Iran, so many of whom <\/span>we have<\/span> seen today. And when they do turn their resistance into rebellion, <\/span>we,<\/span> and the rest of the world, particularly in the United States, must stand with them and support them.<\/span> I am convinced that is a day that is coming.
