The COVID-19 death toll and infection rate\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0rapidly rising<\/span>\u00a0in Iran<\/span>. Among victims are hundreds of medical staff and health professionals. Their death and<\/span>\u00a0their<\/span>\u00a0tireless efforts to help the victims is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>wake of the mullahs\u2019 regime inaction.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>report published by the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a><\/span>)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0over 83,000<\/a> people have so far\u00a0<\/span>passed away<\/span>\u00a0due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.\u00a0<\/span>The COVID-19 pandemic<\/span>\u00a0was first transmitted<\/a> from China to Iran<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>early\u00a0<\/span>March and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>spread quickly due to the regime\u2019s inaction and cover-up.\u00a0<\/span>The Iranian regime deliberately used the coronavirus outbreak to<\/span>\u00a0control the restive Iranian society<\/span>. Ongoing oppression and the regime\u2019s systematic corruption and plundering of the national wealth which has pushed\u00a0<\/span>more sectors of society\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>to poverty ha<\/span>ve\u00a0<\/span>turned the Iranian society into a powder keg. The\u00a0<\/span>coronavirus outbreak was a momentum for the regime to\u00a0<\/span>prevent the society from erupting by sending people to the COVID-19 minefield.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 353 Cities Exceeded 83,200 \u2014 NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) August 5, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Yet, in<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0face of the regime\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>deliberate inaction, Iranian medical staff, physicians,\u00a0<\/span>nurses<\/span>\u00a0and other health professionals\u00a0<\/span>rushed to the aid of victims. The<\/span>ir<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>selflessness in helping the victims, amid shortage of medication and lack of governmental support, was widely admired by the Iranian citizens.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Instead of helping them, the regime has not only refused to materially support Iranian hospitals and their medical\u00a0<\/span>staffs but<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>has been delaying in giving nurses<\/span>\u00a0their<\/span>\u00a0paychecks. In addition, the regime\u2019s officials sign\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>\u00a089-days contract with nurses to avoid giving them insurance<\/span>. This is while these nurses are risking their lives.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In an interview with the state-run IRNA news agency on\u00a0<\/span>Wednesday,<\/span>\u00a0Alireza\u00a0<\/span>Salimi<\/span>, deputy chief of the regime\u2019s Medical Council<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0said: “The index of coronavirus patients entering hospitals has changed<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and the number of acute patients in need of ICU has increased. As a result, we are facing a shortage of ICU beds across the country. We are in very difficult circumstances, facing decisions to empty ICU beds and choose new patients. One of the shortages that is currently very serious is the shortage of staff in the ICU sections. The current staff is tired and overly fatigued. This lowers their bodies\u2019 immune system and increases the possibility of them being contaminated with the illness. The individuals working in ICUs are being contaminated at three times the rate of ordinary people. Those who get ill may show a negative Covid-19 test after a period of 14 days. However, it will take months before they can return to their normal status and be able to work again. The issue of fatigue among the medical staff is serious. Officials need to discuss this and make decisions. Another issue is that our medical staff have seen their paychecks being delayed for months now<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Around six thousand members of the medical staff in Tehran have been contaminated with Covid-19<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and more than 150 have lost their lives.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mistreatment of nurses<\/span>\u00a0and their harsh working condition<\/span>\u00a0in Iran is not new. In\u00a0<\/span>January 2019,<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>state-run IRNA news agency\u00a0<\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a>:<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span>Non-implementation of the law on tariffs for nurses’ services, hard work, psychological and physical injuries, insufficient salaries,\u00a0<\/span>benefits<\/span>, etc. are among the demands of nurses.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>According to international nursing standards, the number of nurses should be three times that of doctors or twice the number of available hospital beds;\u00a0<\/span>b<\/span>ut this figure is\u00a0<\/span>the same\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0each<\/span>\u00a0category<\/span>\u00a0in our country, and this issue has caused additional pressure on the staff of the nursing complex.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While the Iranian nurses and medical staffs are risking their lives to help people and are being mistreated, the Iranian regime continues\u00a0<\/span>using national wealth for terrorism.\u00a0 The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), based on the MEK\u2019s information obtained from within the regime, previously\u00a0<\/span>revealed<\/span><\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>The monthly salary of IRGC mercenaries in Syria, according to information released by the Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in the US in July 2016, averages about $1,000 a month. At that time, there were about 70,000 IRGC foreign mercenaries in Syria, including Iraqi (<\/span>Heydarion<\/span>), Afghan (<\/span>Fatemiyoun<\/span>), Lebanese (Lebanese Hezbollah), Pakistani, and Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile,\u00a0<\/span>Maryam\u00a0<\/span>Hazrati<\/span>, Deputy Minister of Nursing of the Ministry of Health, referring to the amount of nurses\u2019 salaries in February 2019, said: \u201cIn the private sector, nurses\u2019 salaries were 1.5 million tomans plus performance reward, in the public sector, 2.5 million tomans plus performance reward and the average performance reward was a maximum of 800,000 tomans.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In a completely optimistic study, if we assume that the average salary of each nurse is 3 million tomans,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>it will be equal to<\/span>\u00a0$125<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(At the exchange rate of\u00a0<\/span>23<\/span>,000\u202ftomans\u202fper U.S. dollar<\/span>.\u00a0 So, a simple math shows that Iranian nurse<\/span>s\u2019 salaries are almost 10 times less than the regime\u2019s terrorists and mercenaries.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In addition, many of these nurses and medical staffs have been arrested\u00a0<\/span>or fired\u00a0<\/span>for telling the truth\u00a0<\/span>about the coronavirus outbreak, or what the regime calls \u201crumor mongering.<\/a>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n
