NCRI – A Pakistani man was convicted in Germany on Monday of spying for Iran to search out potential attack targets for the Revolutionary Guards.<\/p>\n
The defendant, 31-year-old Mustufa Haidar Syed-Naqfi, was sentenced to four years and three months in prison “for working for a foreign intelligence service”, a spokeswoman for Berlin’s superior court said. \u2018Gulf Times\u2019 reported on March 27 2017.<\/p>\n
The court found he spied “against Germany and another Nato member”, France, for the Quds Force, the foreign operations wing of the elite Revolutionary Guards.<\/p>\n
Syed-Naqfi compiled dossiers on possible attack targets — a German lawmaker who is the former head of a German-Israeli organisation, and a French-Israeli economics professor.<\/p>\n
Investigators found detailed dossiers on the men and their daily routines, with hundreds of photos and video clips.<\/p>\n
The court heard they detailed the targets’ homes and work places, various access routes to them, as well as information on security guards, surveillance cameras and nearby police stations.<\/p>\n
A representative of Germany’s domestic intelligence service, which handles counterespionage, said it was alerted to the defendant by a “reliable” source.<\/p>\n
The service suspected the Quds Force was preparing for a possible future conflict with the United States and Israel, when it could hit targets in Europe in a form of “asymmetrical warfare”.<\/p>\n
The Karachi-born Syed-Naqfi came to Germany as a student in 2012 and most recently lived in the western city of Bremen.<\/p>\n
The defendant travelled to Iran at least twice, in October 2015 and February 2016, and received at least \u20ac2,052 for his intelligence activities.<\/p>\n
He was arrested in July 2016 but declined to testify during the trial — “out of fear”, according to his lawyer.<\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that earlier this year in January the Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran had issued a statement, concerning the terrorist activities of the Iranian regime, in Europe which stated:<\/p>\n
The assassination plot targeting German politician Reinhold Robbe and spying on a business college in Paris and a professor of this facility, all by the religious fascism ruling Iran, redouble the necessity to end relations with this terrorist and fundamentalist regime, and to expel its agents from these European countries. Inaction vis-\u00e0-vis a regime described by the Iranian people as the \u201cGodfather of Daesh (ISIS\/ISIL)\u201d has encouraged it to escalate its espionage and efforts to execute terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n
Events of the last few years show the mullahs regime has taken advantage of economic and diplomatic relations, exchange students and even refugee facilitation\u2013especially in European countries\u2013to pursue objectives in terrorizing, spying and denying security for refugees, bypassing sanctions, purchasing banned items and \u2026 The freedom of movement enjoyed by this regime\u2019s agents in Europe has evolved Iran into a serious threat for security in the Green Continent.<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s intelligence agency was spying on Robbe, former president of the German-Israel friendship society and the possible target of an assassination attempt by Iran\u2019s intelligence agency, according to recent German media reports citing the country\u2019s federal prosecutor.<\/p>\n
In this regard a Pakistani agent of the Iranian regime was arrested in July 2016 on suspicion of espionage activities. This individual was also suspected to have spied on a French-Israeli professor at a Paris business college.<\/p>\n
According to German media, \u201cbased on the indictment bill, the federal prosecutor believes the espionage effort aimed to gain information on possible targets for attacks\u2026 the individuals charged of espionage had specifically mapped commuting routes used by the Socialist Democrat politician, and obtained intelligence about the German-Israeli Society building. This is analyzed as clear reasoning for preparations of an attack.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is said another Iranian intelligence agent, born in Pakistan and involved in this case, is on the run.<\/p>\n
Iran employs non-Iranian agents, including from Lebanon and Pakistan, to clear any tracks and prevent consequences of criminal espionage and terrorist plots. The widespread use of Lebanese, Pakistani, Afghan and other others as proxies to kill the Syrian people has provided far more opportunities for the Iranian regime to select and train adequate agents for espionage and terrorist missions in Europe.<\/p>\n
The Iranian regime and its agents are allowed to freely commute to this continent while European intelligence\/security agencies are fully informed of Tehran\u2019s intentions. The 2015 Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution report states in this regard, \u201cIran\u2019s Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) remains the most important element behind the activities against Germany. Its focus is especially on the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and National Council of Resistance of Iran. Alongside these intelligence and reconnaissance measures against German systems and equipment inside and abroad, first and foremost the interests of Germany\u2019s long-term objectives lie in the fields of foreign policy and security\u2026 controlling intelligence activities to obtain information is carried out by the main base of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security in Tehran.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSimultaneously, the main and legal center of Iran\u2019s MOIS in Berlin carries out very important activities and tasks focusing on intelligence gathering. This includes supporting and pursuing intelligence operations ordered by the MOIS base; (these operations) are mainly against targets in Germany, but in various cases they are against individuals or facilities in European countries.
