The Iranian regime\u2019s border forces continue the k<\/span>illing spree\u00a0<\/span>against\u00a0<\/span>deprived porters, who\u00a0<\/span>must<\/span>\u00a0carry heavy loads as the breadwinners of their families.\u00a0<\/span>This job is the direct result of the regime\u2019s institutionalized corruption and plundering of the national wealth. In other words, poor Iranian porters are under double pressure:\u00a0<\/span>poverty and oppression.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hadi Khedri, a 22-year-old porter, was killed by the IRGC forces on August 13, 2020<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Reports from Iran indicate that\u00a0<\/span>the Iranian regime has killed\u00a0<\/span>at least 24 porters, one of the most deprived sectors of society<\/span>\u00a0who carry goods on their back to\u00a0<\/span>cover their families\u2019 expenses in the worst po<\/span>ssible weather and working conditions. Dozens of these porters have been wounded, and many others have been imprisoned. Some news outlets reported that between April\u00a0<\/span>and July 2020<\/span>, some<\/span>\u00a032 porters have been killed. The statistics published by\u00a0<\/span>some Iranian news agencies indicate that Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)<\/a> forces have at least<\/span> killed 79 porters within the last year at point blank range.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, t<\/span>he IRGC forces wounded at least\u00a0<\/span>six<\/span>\u00a0porters by directly shooting them<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>Nowsud<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Baneh<\/span>\u00a0and Urmia in northwestern Iran.\u00a0<\/span>Five<\/span>\u00a0porters were wounded on August 18 in\u00a0<\/span>Baneh<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Nowsud<\/span>. On Saturday, August 15, the Iranian regime\u2019s border forces directly shot and wounded a porter and arrested three others near\u00a0<\/span>the border areas of Urmia.<\/span><\/p>\n

The same report indicates that on August 13, the IRGC forces opened fire on a group of porters near\u00a0<\/span>Kuran<\/span>\u00a0village in Urmia<\/span>, killing a porter identified as 37<\/span>–<\/span>year<\/span>–<\/span>old\u00a0<\/span>Seraj<\/span>\u00a0Ahmadi and wounding two other<\/span>s<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>statistic of dead or injured porters in the last five months, does not include thos<\/span>e unlucky porters who fell to their death,\u00a0<\/span>froze,<\/span>\u00a0or were buried under avalanche<\/span>s<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Porters\u2019 job is\u00a0<\/span>one<\/span>\u00a0of the most difficult and dangerous jobs for the deprived people in the border region<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0of Iran in the provinces of Kurdistan and East Azerbaijan<\/span>; and those doing this job\u00a0<\/span>are in\u00a0<\/span>tough economic<\/span>\u00a0conditions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Obviously the<\/span>\u00a0Iranian regime\u2019s institutionalized corruption<\/span>, plundering national wealth<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>monopolizing\u00a0<\/span>job opportunities \u2013 which have pushed a large number of deprived people in Kurdistan and East\u00a0<\/span>Az<\/span>e<\/span>rbaijan<\/span>\u00a0to the\u00a0<\/span>valley of poverty<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>– have caused the creation of the hollow yet difficult \u201cjob\u201d of porting.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Many of these porters are educated youth holding high degrees, who are doing this job, merely for not having a proper job and grappling with poverty.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u00a0<\/span>has been<\/span> a huge social reaction to the Iranian regime\u2019s criminal approach toward the porters.<\/span><\/p>\n

In late July 2020, the regime’s court in\u00a0<\/span>Baneh<\/span>\u00a0sentenced ten\u00a0<\/span>Baneh<\/span>\u00a0citizens to a total of 30 months in prison and 250 lashes. These people had protested in 2017 over the killing of two porters in\u00a0<\/span>Baneh<\/span>\u00a0and were subsequently repressed and arrested<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On August 2, news agencies reported a statement from\u00a0<\/span>80 labor<\/span>\u00a0and trade unions around the world entitled “Porters should not be forgotten,” condemning the clerical regime’s anti-labor policies and calling for an end to the porters’ massacre<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Simultaneously, a social media campaign\u00a0<\/span>started\u00a0<\/span>with\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>#\u06a9\u0648\u0644\u0628\u0631_\u0646\u06a9\u0634\u06cc\u062f<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>or<\/span>\u00a0#<\/strong><\/span>don\u2019t\u00a0kill porters<\/strong>\u00a0hashtag becoming a worldwide trend. This campaign received\u00a0<\/span>vast<\/span>\u00a0coverage<\/span>, causing the regime\u2019s state-run new outlets to react, calling this popular mo<\/span>vement and people\u2019s righteous anger\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>the regime\u2019s criminal deed a \u201cdeviltry by foreign elements and dissidents<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run\u00a0<\/span>Noor (<\/span>L<\/span>ight) News which is close to the regime\u2019s Supreme National Security Council, in\u00a0<\/span>reaction to the vast demands of the social media users to stop\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>porter killing spree<\/span>,<\/span> wrote: \u201cThe wave of \u2018do not kill the porter\u2019 was initiated by the dissident media and mostly organized users.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>crimes of the\u00a0<\/span>IRGC and the\u00a0<\/span>State Security Forces are not just limited to porters. There are daily reports of people being shot<\/span>\u00a0and killed by the State Security Forces and police while<\/span>\u00a0carrying water or fuel to\u00a0<\/span>cover their living expenses. These tragic incidents mainly happen in the impoverished areas of south and southwest Iran.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The mullahs\u2019 regime oppresses deprived people living in poor border areas for attempting to earn their living expenses, meanwhile it spends billions of dollars of the national w<\/span>ealth\u00a0<\/span>on terrorism and funding terrorist groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon. Therefore, the Iranian people c<\/span>hanted during the uprising: \u201cNo\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>Lebanon<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>no<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Gaza<\/span>, my life for Iran\u201d and identified the regime\u2019s downfall as the only solution to the current situation.<\/span><\/p>\n
