{"id":22466,"date":"2017-04-04T17:22:59","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T16:22:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/issues\/human-rights\/22466-bashar-al-assad-s-most-horrific-war-crime"},"modified":"2023-01-17T08:01:25","modified_gmt":"2023-01-17T07:01:25","slug":"bashar-al-assad-s-most-horrific-war-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/bashar-al-assad-s-most-horrific-war-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"Bashar Al-Assad&#8217;s Most Horrific War Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The deadliest chemical weapons attack in years in Syria killed dozens of people in northern Idlib province on Tuesday morning,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several air raids struck rebel-held Idlib in Syria, in what appeared to be a chlorine and sarin gas attack according to local reports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Idlib-2\" class=\" size-full wp-image-46978\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/09\/Idlib-2.jpg\" alt=\"Idlib-2\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to activist Abdulkafi Alhamdo, who lives in Idlib, two attacks struck at around 12:30 am. The third attack took place this morning in Khan Sheikhoun where 58 people, including 11 children under eight-years-old died. Reported, Al Arabiya English Tuesday, 4 April 2017.<\/p>\n<p>A worker from a children\u2019s hospital in Idlib told al Arabiya they were overwhelmed with the amount of injured people from the morning attack, so much so that large numbers of patients were being sent to other hospitals in the city and neighboring towns. Others were sent to the border crossing between Syria and Turkey, Bab el Hawa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Idlib-1\" class=\" size-full wp-image-46977\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/09\/Idlib-1.jpg\" alt=\"Idlib-1\" width=\"750\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation is horrendous, especially because there is a shortage of oxygen generators, and medicine to treat injuries caused by sarin gas. Many of the injuries were fatal, and there are many children. One problem we are facing is that children that have been affected by the gas are dying on their way to the Turkish border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There has been a joint coordination between Bab el Hawa hospital and the Turkish government on sending victims of the chemical attack into Turkey for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe symptoms are those caused by a gas like sarin. Pinpoint (constricted) pupils, foaming at the mouth, loss of consciousness, slowed heartbeat.\u201d the hospital woker said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Idlib-3\" class=\" size-full wp-image-48387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/Idlib-3.jpg\" alt=\"Idlib-3\" width=\"750\" height=\"562\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-3.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-3-696x522.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said the lack of oxygen generators and shortage of medicine and the capacity of the hospitals being stretched thin has made treatment difficult. \u201cFamilies are in a state of grief as everyone expects the worst.\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mounir Aldibo, an eyewitness told Al Arabiya English that the attack took place at 6:55 am on Tuesday morning when four bombs hit the northern area of Khan Sheikhoun.<\/p>\n<p>He said families were confused, unsure whether it was chlorine or saline that was in the air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Idlib-4\" class=\" size-full wp-image-46979\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/09\/Idlib-4.jpg\" alt=\"Idlib-4\" width=\"750\" height=\"498\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the beginning we were stopped from getting close to the victims, because it was feared we would choke or suffocate. The only ones allowed to enter and help the victims were the White Helmet rescue team,\u201d Aldibo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they first fired the rockets, we did not know it was chlorine. Many people wanted to initially go aid the victims, Civilians were rescuing children, we starting pouring water on them, what were supposed to do? We do not have any advanced medical equipment. The highly qualified people we have are only nurses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said there was proof of the attack left by craters in the ground caused by the rockets filled with gas.<\/p>\n<p>Videos were published of children, women, and men choking and fainting, while smoke and foam poured from their mouths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Idlib-5\" class=\" size-full wp-image-48388\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/Idlib-5.jpg\" alt=\"Idlib-5\" width=\"750\" height=\"498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-5.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-5-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Idlib-5-696x462.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning, at 6:30 am, warplanes targeted Khan Sheikhoun with gas, believed to be sarin and chlorine,\u201d said Mounzer Khalil, head of Idlib\u2019s health authority, adding that the attack had killed more than 50 people and wounded 300.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the hospitals in Idlib province are now overflowing with wounded people,\u201d he said in a news conference in Idlib.<\/p>\n<p>Warplanes later struck near a medical point where victims of the attack were being treated, the Observatory and civil defense workers said.<br \/>This incident marks the deadliest chemical attack in Syria since sarin gas killed hundreds of civilians in Ghouta near Damascus in August 2013.
