Iran – Muharram mourning ceremonies amid coronavirus outbreak<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

After pushing for holding the <\/span>Muharram mourning ceremonies<\/span><\/a> despite the coronavirus outbreak and its rising death toll, the Iranian regime\u2019s Supreme Leader <\/span>will not physically attend these ceremonies.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This action means how the regime\u2019s officials<\/span>,<\/span> particularly Khamenei and his president Hassan Rouhani, are careless about people\u2019s lives. <\/span>B<\/span>ut<\/span> the regime\u2019s mismanagement of this crisis, from downplaying it to forcing people back to work, hold<\/span>ing<\/span> college entrance exams <\/span>and now hold<\/span>ing<\/span> Muharram religious ceremonies, indicate a far more sinister and <\/span>criminal intention<\/span><\/a>. This is nothing but using the <\/span>COVID-19 outbreak<\/span><\/a> to quell the restive Iranian society.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Background and Facts\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>major Iran protests<\/span><\/a> rattled the Iranian regime\u2019s foundations. <\/span>The m<\/span>ullahs were able to hold their grip on power, after Khamenei ordered his forces to \u201cdo whatever it takes,\u201d thus giving them a license to kill that resulted <\/span>in <\/span>1500 deaths<\/span><\/a>. Yet, in less than two months, the Iranian society <\/span>once again<\/span><\/a> erupted, when the regime was forced to admit<\/span> it had shot down a <\/span>Ukrainian passenger<\/span><\/a> jet, killing all 176 passengers. People soon started <\/span>chanting slogans such as \u201cdeath to dictator,\u201d showing their desire, no matter how much brutality this regime showed during November protests<\/span>, is regime change.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the regime\u2019s malign activities further increased its international isolation. To somehow legitimize their rule and prevent another uprising, <\/span>the <\/span>mullahs denied the existence of COVID-19 in Iran and held their sham <\/span>parliamentary elections<\/span><\/a>. Although <\/span>people boycotted the regime\u2019s sham parliamentary <\/span>election, but those few regime supporters became host of this virus and spread it across Iran. The regime\u2019s subsequent cover-up <\/span>expedited the spread of this deadly virus across Iran.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> Iranian regime denied the existence of coronavirus for over a month. <\/span>The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/span><\/a> released <\/span>documents<\/span><\/a> obtained by the <\/span>People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/span><\/a> from the Iranian regime\u2019s <\/span>National Emergency Organization, showing <\/span>the <\/span>first coronavirus cases were <\/span>detected in early January.\u00a0<\/span> The MEK has announced that so far over <\/span>95,000 people<\/span><\/a> have lost their lives due to the novel coronavirus.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, during the regime\u2019s infightings, some of its own <\/span>officials <\/span>admitted<\/span><\/a> the regime deliberately denied the <\/span>existence of<\/span> the COVID-19 virus. T<\/span>he <\/span>state-run <\/span>Jahan-e <\/span>Sanat<\/span> daily<\/span> published a<\/span>n interview with<\/span> Mohammad Reza <\/span>Mahboubfar<\/span>, <\/span>a <\/span>member of the Iranian Health Ministry\u2019s coronavirus task force, in which<\/span> he said that<\/span> the first <\/span>coronavirus <\/span>cases were recorded even earlier than that, around the end of December.<\/span> Mahboubfar<\/span> also said<\/span> that the official estimates of infection and mortality rates account for only about five percent of the true total.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the Iranian regime finally acknowledged the existence of this virus, it started downplaying it. People were told to stay at <\/span>home,<\/span> but roads <\/span>were open. They told people to <\/span>go into <\/span>quarantine but refused to <\/span>financially<\/span> support them. Therefore, as more people were joining the army of starving people and the prospect of another uprising was looming, the regime forced the Iranian people back to work. <\/span>While the regime\u2019s health officials said the <\/span>college entrance exams<\/span><\/a> shouldn\u2019t be held, the regime held it.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now the regime intends to hold the Muharram mourning ceremonies, to use people\u2019s religious sentiments <\/span>for pursuing its goal of paralyzing the Iranian society that yearns for regime change. <\/span>A glance at the regime\u2019s behavior shows why Khamenei had described <\/span>this deadly virus as \u201cblessing and test.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All the while, the Iranian regime knows that its mismanagement of this crisis will further increase the Iranian society\u2019s restiveness.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard, the state-run <\/span>Mostaghel<\/span><\/a> daily on July 13 <\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a>: \u201c<\/span>This nation will not forget how it was abandoned during these bitter days.\u00a0 This will affect the upcoming incidents.<\/span> S<\/span>oon, people will come to their table for eating, and their despair of an empty table will lead them to protest on busy streets.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
