{"id":225061,"date":"2020-09-02T12:32:59","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T11:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/?p=225061"},"modified":"2023-01-21T05:18:59","modified_gmt":"2023-01-21T04:18:59","slug":"iran-regimes-deputy-interior-minister-admits-how-mullahs-planned-to-oppress-people-during-2019-iran-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/iran-regimes-deputy-interior-minister-admits-how-mullahs-planned-to-oppress-people-during-2019-iran-protests\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran Regime\u2019s Deputy Interior Minister Admits How Mullahs Planned To Oppress People During 2019 Iran Protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Iran_Protests-_November_2019-_File_Photo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Iran_Protests-_November_2019-_File_Photo.jpg\" alt=\"Iran_Protests-_November_2019-_File_Photo\" width=\"800\" height=\"420\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">November 2019 protests in Iran<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Remarks by the Iranian regime\u2019s Deputy Minister of Security and Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Interior confirm that the brutal crackdown on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019-update\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major protests<\/a> in Iran in November 2019 were premeditated.<\/p>\n<p>During <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.javanonline.ir\/fa\/news\/1017509\/%D8%AA%D8%B5%D9%85%DB%8C%D9%85-%D9%85%D9%82%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82%DB%8C-%D8%B9%D8%AF%D9%85-%D8%AD%D8%B6%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%A6%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%BA%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82%DB%8C-%D8%AF%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%B9%DB%8C%D9%86-%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a press conference<\/a> on Tuesday, Hossein Zolfaghari, the Deputy Minister of Security and Law Enforcement, said: \u201cThe Supreme National Security Council had predicted the incidents of the November 2019. Our opinion was to have a fixed fuel price, standing at 15,000 rials. And we had predicted protests, we had predicted the social consequences of raising the fuel price. In the early hours after the plan was declared nothing happened. But, starting Friday noon, a group from outside of the country started some actions, some people were also protesting, and then other things happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zolfaghari\u2019s remarks show the Iranian regime was aware of the Iranian society\u2019s restiveness and had prepared to oppress any voice of dissent. Yet, the nationwide Iran protests were so huge that they shocked the regime\u2019s officials and rattled the foundations of the ruling theocracy. People\u2019s demands soon turned political, calling for regime change and chanting slogans such as \u201cdeath to the dictator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ordered the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/irgc-s-38-year-record-war-crackdown-exporting-terrorism-fundamentalist-and-advancing-the-nuclear-weapons-drive\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Revolutionary Guards<\/a> (IRGC) \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/reuters-confirms-ncri-s-death-tally-of-1500-from-crackdown-on-iran-protests\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to do whatever it takes<\/a>\u201d to oppress the protesters. According to the information tallied by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-iranian-opposition-pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>, at least <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/over-1-500-killed-in-the-iranian-people-s-nationwide-uprising-names-of-504-martyrs-released\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1500 protesters were killed<\/a> by the regime\u2019s security forces, 4,000 were wounded, and more than 12,000 people were arrested. The subsequent death sentences the regime issued for the detained protesters suggest that the mullahs intend to continue the killing spree of November to hold their grip on power.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Zolfaghari, the regime\u2019s Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-protests\/iran-regimes-interior-minister-admits-to-killing-protesters-during-iran-protests-international-community-must-intervene\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> that between 200 and 255 people lost their lives during the major protests in Iran in 2019. Despite his desperate effort to downplay the regime\u2019s brutality after months of silence, his remarks once again underline the need for the world community to act and hold the mullahs\u2019 regime to account for its crimes.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-e1598946307486\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-e1598946307486.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-e1598946307486\" width=\"300\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Human rights defenders and groups such as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2020\/05\/iran-details-released-of-304-deaths-during-protests-six-months-after-security-forces-killing-spree\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amnesty International<\/a> condemned the regime\u2019s use of lethal force in suppressing protesters. \u201cThe fact that so many people were shot while posing no threat whatsoever shows the sheer ruthlessness of the security forces\u2019 unlawful killing spree,\u201d said Philip Luther, Amnesty International\u2019s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>As to the Iranian society and its restiveness, Zolfaghari admitted on Tuesday that there were 519 calls for protests in the first five months of last (Persian) year. \u201cThis year in the same timeframe, there were 1,702 calls for protests which shows a 227% increase,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo prevent social tension, we sent 610 strategic reports with clear suggestions to the country\u2019s authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing protests in Iran confirm that despite the regime\u2019s brutal crackdown, the mullahs have not been able to completely quell the Iranian society and anything could cause the Iranian society to explode. For the regime, the only possible answer is to further increase its oppression, even though this will not help the regime get out of the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, Zolfaghari and Rahmani Fazli\u2019s remarks also highlight the need for the international community to intervene and hold the regime\u2019s officials to account for their crimes, to avoid further brutalities, such as the recent execution of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-regime-hangs-protester-mostafa-salehi-to-terrorize-the-public-thwart-uprisings\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mostafa Salehi<\/a>, who was arrested during the 2018 uprising. The regime\u2019s Judiciary recently upheld the death sentence for Navid Afkari Sangari, a wrestling champion, who was arrested in 2018.
