This only\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">prompted<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0further international outcry about Afkari\u2019s evident experiences of false imprisonment and torture. Ye<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t Tehran\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was forced to execute Navid. Because the mullahs\u2019 regime has been ruling by <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">systematic oppression. In\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">addition,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the nationwide uprising in 2018 and 2019 have\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">not only rattled the regime\u2019s foundations, but they have demoralized security forces. Navid\u2019s execution was meant to boost the morale of these forces.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Wednesday\u2019s conference served to reinforce the prior condemnations of Afkari\u2019s execution, but it also strongly emphasized the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">regime\u2019s systematic human rights violations and oppressing any voice of opposition<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, either in present circumstances or throughout the four-decade history of the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mullahs\u2019 regime<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As an example,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">an activist named Mostafa Salehi was similarly executed in August for taking part in 2018<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">though his case received considerably less international attention.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">NCRI President<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-elect<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mrs.\u00a0<\/a><\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Maryam Rajavi noted at the time that Salehi was very nearly accompanied to the gallows by eight other condemned protesters. Their survival, at least up to this point, was attributed primarily to a domestic social media campaign in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Iran<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which saw millions of people utilizing a Persian hashtag that translates to \u201cDo Not Execute.\u201d However, the impact of that campaign cannot be expected to last indefinitely, and the lingering danger of a much higher death toll was a key focus of Wednesday\u2019s conference.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cA<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">number of political prisoners are currently on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">death row<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and in danger of being executed,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Tahar<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Boumedra<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the former head of the Human Rights Office in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq. \u201cIf no serious measure is taken, there will be a massive loss of life.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tahar Boumedra of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jvmifoundation?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@jvmifoundation<\/a>: The UN must stop recommending action. After urging Western governments and the United Nations to demand access to Iranian prisons and to initiate an investigation of the regime\u2019s massacre of political prisoners in 1988, he declared, \u201cIt is time to consider more serious consequences. After two Iranian operatives were arrested while attempting to access that rally with explosives in their possession, it was revealed that they had been directed by a high-ranking diplomat at Iran\u2019s embassy in Vienna.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The fallout from the terror plot included allegations from some Western authorities that the vast majority of Iranian consular employees are actually operatives in the regime\u2019s secret service.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As NCRI has previously exposed, the Iranian regime\u2019s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0entire diplomatic infrastructure\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a thinly veiled terrorist network.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This message<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was reinforced in Wednesday\u2019s conference, which at times emphasized the continuity of Iran\u2019s political violence at home and abroad.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Most speakers attributed part of the upward trend in that violence to a longstanding Western commitment to conciliatory dealings with Tehran. \u201cThe regime has been emboldened to continue repressive measures against their people as well as their terrorist activities,\u201d said Matthew Offord<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. But he also hinted at the opportunity for a broader strategy of isolating and exerting pressure on the Iranian regime. While Navid Afkari\u2019s execution reflects a broader crackdown on dissent in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Iran<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, that crackdown, in turn, highlights the regime\u2019s anxiety over an anti-government protest movement that has resisted all of Tehran\u2019s efforts to control it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KimmoSasi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KimmoSasi<\/a>:  The UK must stand against Iran.
