University students in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, chanted slogans against the Iranian regime and its terrorist proxy groups and affiliated corrupt officials, while holding pictures of the martyrs of their uprising.<\/p>\n<p>Participants at all these protests across Iraq underlined that they will not stop their protests until they achieve their goals and put an end to the Iranian regime\u2019s ominous presence in Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>The regime has described Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon as its \u201cstrategic depth\u201d as one of its pillars to stay in power. The main role of the regime\u2019s Revolutionary Guards (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/irgc-s-38-year-record-war-crackdown-exporting-terrorism-fundamentalist-and-advancing-the-nuclear-weapons-drive\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IRGC)<\/a> and its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/publications\/special-reports\/the-iranian-regimes-irgc-quds-force-1980s-present\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quds Force<\/a>, with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-fundamentalism\/27175-who-was-the-vicious-criminal-qassem-soleimani\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Qassem Soleimani<\/a> as its commander, was to preserve this strategic depth. The mullahs\u2019 regime plundered national wealth for fortifying its \u201cstrategic depth,\u201d and carried out its schemes through its terrorist proxy groups.<\/p>\n<p>Iraq, with its Shi\u2019ite majority was most important to the regime. The regime\u2019s ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, has been acting as Iraq\u2019s secret governor. Soleimani and Masjedi played a key role in suppressing the Iraqi people\u2019s uprising and killing innocent civilians by using the regime\u2019s proxy groups such as the Badr Brigades, Kataib Hezbollah and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the Quds Force\u2019s activities in Iraq, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/alternative\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a>, in an exclusive report, wrote: During the Iran-Iraq, Mohsen Rezaei, then-commander of the Revolutionary Guards, gradually tried to cover all of the regime\u2019s terrorist activities abroad and communicate with the foreign groups supported by the regime, so he took these forces under his command. This was the first serious step taken by the IRGC to completely encompass the terrorist, war-mongering, and interventionist activities of the regime abroad. For this purpose, Rezaei formed the 9th Badr Brigade, which consisted of some Iraqi war prisoners and those expelled from Iraq. Hadi Ameri, the Badr group\u2019s current head, is one of the most critical groups forming the Iraqi Al Hashd-al Sha\u2019bi.<\/p>\n<p>The regime\u2019s current ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, has direct relations with so many leaders of the groups that make up the Popular Mobilization Forces. One of these groups is the Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba. The United States included Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba and its leader Akram-al-Kaabi on its sanctions list on March 5, 2019. Masjedi officially met with the leader of this group, Akram-al Kaabi, on June 26, 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As to the regime\u2019s funding of its proxy groups in Iraq, it is enough to point to one example. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/snn.ir\/fa\/news\/854813\/%D8%AA%D9%82%D8%AF%DB%8C%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AD%D8%B4%D8%AF-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D8%B9%D8%A8%DB%8C-%D8%A7%D8%B2-%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%AA-%D8%A7%DB%8C%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%A7%D8%B2-%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A7%D9%82-%D8%AF%D8%B1-%D9%85%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%B2%D9%87-%D8%A8%D8%A7-%D8%AA%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%B1%DB%8C%D8%B3%D9%85\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">According<\/a> to the regime\u2019s Daneshjoo (Student) news agency, on Jun 2020, Muhannad al-Aqabi, head of the PMF\u2019s information and relation said: \u201cWhen All countries abandoned [us] in fight against terrorism, Iran stood by on our side.\u201d All the while, the Human Rights Watch, on January 31, 2016 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2016\/01\/31\/iraq-possible-war-crimes-shia-militia\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a>: \u201cMembers of Shia militias, who the Iraqi government has included among its state forces, abducted and killed scores of Sunni residents in a central Iraq town and demolished Sunni homes, stores, and mosques.\u201d This was PMF\u2019s so-called \u201cfight against terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The regime uses its proxy terrorist groups to spread fear across the Middle East and continues its blackmailing campaign through terrorist activities.<\/p>\n<h3>Protests in Iraq and a change in the balance of power<\/h3>\n<p>The Iraqi people\u2019s uprising and the nationwide Iran <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/iran-protests-2019-update\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">protests in 2019<\/a> have shocked the regime. In response, and to restore its lost hegemony, Tehran launched several attacks against the United States in Iraq; trying to divert Iraqi people\u2019s attention from the real enemy, which is the Iranian regime and its proxy groups. However, when during one of the regime\u2019s operations an American got killed, the mullahs\u2019 regime received an irreparable blow. The U.S. killed Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mehdi Al-Muhandis, head of the PMF, in a drone strike.<\/p>\n<p>The regime had made a miscalculation. In fact, the major Iran protests and Iraqi people\u2019s uprising had changed the balance against the regime. The Iran protests in November represent a coup de gr\u00e2ce to the Western policy of appeasement. The regime\u2019s President Hassan Rouhani acknowledged as much when he pointed to the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear agreement in 2018 as one sign of a sea change in America policy. When the Iran protests effectively spread to Iraq and Lebanon, it demonstrated that the Iranian regime\u2019s strategic depth had shattered. In fact, these uprisings, particularly in Iran, demonstrated the emptiness of the regime\u2019s hollow show of power.<\/p>\n<p>Now as the Iranian people yearn for regime change and Iraqi people demand the expulsion of the mullahs\u2019 regime, it is imperative for the international community to stand by their side. In fact, if the world community intends to stop terrorism and chaos in the region, it should take firm actions against the Iranian regime, the largest state sponsor of terrorism.
