The regime\u2019s state-run media on Saturday, while referring to the protests after the\u00a0<\/span>passing\u00a0<\/span>of Iran\u2019s renowned master of Persian traditional\u00a0<\/span>music and singer<\/span>, Mohammad Reza Shajarian,\u00a0<\/span>reflected the regime\u2019s fear.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Protests erupted after Mr. Shajarian\u00a0<\/span>passed away<\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>Friday night. People on street\u00a0<\/span>chanted<\/a> slogans such<\/span>\u00a0as<\/span>\u00a0\u201cthe National TV is\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>disgrace,\u201d and \u201cDeath to the dictator.\u201d Fearing these protests could initiate\u00a0<\/span>another round of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>major protests, the regime\u00a0<\/span>held Mr. Shajarian\u2019s funeral under high<\/span>–<\/span>security measures.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The same regime<\/span>\u00a0and its media that\u00a0<\/span>for years censored Mr. Shajarian and deprived people\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0<\/span>hearing his extraordinary\u00a0<\/span>voice<\/span>, now pretend to be mourning for him. This is nothing but<\/span>\u00a0a criminal\u00a0<\/span>attempt\u00a0<\/span>to steal another well-known character\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>a desperate attempt to quell the restive society.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run\u00a0<\/span>Hamdeli<\/span>\u00a0daily on Saturday\u00a0<\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cMost of the people are worried about the pressures of life,\u00a0<\/span>high prices<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>unemployment,\u00a0<\/span>etc. Now if the\u00a0<\/span>Islamic Republic system puts obstacle<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on the path\u00a0<\/span>of the artists, it will initially add to the society\u2019s anger<\/span>; and any recklessness will add to the opponents [of the regime]. Thus, it\u00a0<\/span>should not<\/span>\u00a0be expected that both the people and the society\u00a0<\/span>live in peace. Because the smoke rising from th<\/span>is fire will hurt everyone\u2019s eyes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The state-run\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Jahane<\/span><\/span>-e\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Sanat<\/span><\/span>\u00a0published an\u00a0<\/span><\/span>article<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0by Mahmoud Sadeghi, one of the regime\u2019s former lawmakers<\/span><\/span> about the regime\u2019s high-security measures during\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mr. Shajarian\u2019s funeral. \u201cJust to pay tribute to these renowned Master of Persian singing, I went to Jam Hospital and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>stood afar.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Unfortunately,<\/span>\u00a0the police and special forces tightly controlled the streets leading to the hospital, and the motorbikes of the special unit attacked the crowd.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Such scenes are recorded by cameras and transmitted to the world. This makes the opposition subject to negative propaganda, but unfortunately, <\/span><\/span>this recklessness<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is repeated in such events.<\/span><\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While\u00a0<\/span>referring to the regime\u2019s attempts\u00a0<\/span>to pretend it mourns the loss of Mr. Shajarian while it is only meant to\u00a0<\/span>quell the society, Sadeghi wrote: \u201c<\/span>It is not unprecedented in our country, sometimes figures who are great and famous people during their lifetime [the regime] hurt them and impose restrictions on them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>But after their deaths, [the regime’s officials] try to accompany the public opinion.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the regime calls people “dust and trash,” Mr. Shajarian says he is people’s voice<\/h3>\n

After the Iranian people\u2019s uprising in 2009,\u00a0<\/span>when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, then-president called people \u201cdust and trash,\u201d Mr. Shajarian announced\u00a0<\/span>that if the people are dust and trash then, he is the voice of these\u00a0 \u201cdust and trash.\u201d\u00a0 The regime\u00a0<\/span>then removed the\u00a0<\/span>Shajarian\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>famous Ramadan song<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Rabanna<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0from the TV and did not allow\u00a0<\/span>him to hold concerts anymore.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Referring to this, Sadeghi wrote in Jahan-e\u00a0<\/span>Sanat<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe all remember t<\/span>he reaction of Mr. Shajarian to the \u2018dust and\u00a0<\/span>trash\u2019 issue, calling himself the\u00a0<\/span>voice\u00a0<\/span>of those \u2018dust and trash\u2019.
