Le Monde on October 10 quoted Belgian authorities as saying t<\/span>hat Iran\u2019s incarcerated diplomat<\/span>-terrorist<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>As<\/span>s<\/span>ad<\/span>o<\/span>llah<\/span>\u00a0Assadi\u00a0<\/span><\/a>was acting under the direction of the Iranian state in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the 2018 foiled bomb\u00a0<\/span>plot against the Iranian<\/span>\u00a0opposition rally in\u00a0<\/span>Paris. This indicates\u00a0<\/span>that the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>action\u00a0<\/span>constituted\u00a0<\/span>state<\/span>-sponsored<\/span>\u00a0terrorism.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cO<\/span>n February 20,\u00a0<\/span>Jaak<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Raas<\/span>, head of the [Belgium] intelligence service, wrote to the federal prosecutor at the time that ‘the proposed attack was conceived in the name of Iran, and under its leadership; it was not a personal initiative\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0<\/span>Assadi<\/span>,\u2019\u201d read the article<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Assadi has held top positions in the regime. Thus, his involvement in this terrorist attack was not a personal decision or initiative. In this regard, Le Monde writes:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Assadolah<\/span>\u00a0Assadi is the central figure in this case. The 49-year-old was a diplomat in Iraq from 2003 to 2008, before being appointed third secretary at the Iranian embassy in Vienna in 2014. According to the State Security, he mainly acted on behalf of ‘Department 312’, a service of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) which is on the list of organizations classified as terrorist by the European Union<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On July 1, 2018, Germany arrested Assadi<\/span>\u00a0before he enter<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0Austria, where he served as the third\u00a0<\/span>secretary\u00a0<\/span>at the<\/span>\u00a0regime\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Embassy. Prior to Assadi, three other\u00a0<\/span>terrorists<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>in Belgium and France were arrested. The terrorist couple arrested in Belgium were\u00a0<\/span>en<\/span>\u00a0route to Paris to attend the annual \u201cFree Iran\u201d\u00a0<\/span>g<\/span>athering of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)<\/a>. This terrorist couple,\u00a0<\/span>Nasimeh<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Naami<\/span>\u00a0and Amir\u00a0<\/span>Sadouni<\/span>\u00a0were carrying 500 grams of TATP explosives.\u00a0<\/span>Assadi had personally delivered explosives to his operatives in Luxembourg<\/span>\u00a0to carry out the operation<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
