It will be the latest in a series of events organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran to challenge mainstream Iran policy in both Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Threat of Iran regime\u2019s Terrorism<br \/>Undermining Global Security<br \/>Online Parliamentary conference by British MPs and Irish politicians <br \/>Thursday 15 October 2020<br \/>1500 BST-1600 CEST<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DisbandIRGC?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DisbandIRGC<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ExpelIranDiplomatTerrorists?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ExpelIranDiplomatTerrorists<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CVBUKBxaHc\">https:\/\/t.co\/CVBUKBxaHc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; NCRI-FAC (@iran_policy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iran_policy\/status\/1316123337131798528?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Two such events took place last week \u2013 an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/stop-executions-in-iran\/live-report-iran-online-conference-on-the-world-day-against-the-death-penalty-german-lawmakers-condemn-iran-regimes-use-of-death-penalty\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online conference<\/a> targeting the European political community as a whole and a live-streamed rally outside the German Bundestag, which featured a number of German lawmakers who have gone on record as supporting the NCRI and the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/maryam-rajavis-ten-point-plan-for-future-iran\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">10-point plan<\/a> of NCRI President-elect <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a> for the future of Iran following domestically-driven regime change.<\/p>\n<p>Forthcoming events will no doubt emphasize many of the same points as the predecessors, including the notion that Iranian terrorist threats against Western nations have become more numerous and more serious as a result of domestic unrest inside Iran. This claim is particularly well-supported by the fact that a major terrorist plot was thwarted on European soil in the summer of 2018, just several months after a nationwide uprising that encompassed approximately 150 Iranian cities and towns.<\/p>\n<p>While that uprising was still in full-swing, regime\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a speech attributing its rapid spread and uncommonly provocative slogans to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/alternative\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCRI<\/a>\u2019s main constituent group, the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/pmoi-mek\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(PMOI-MEK)<\/a>. This stood in contrast to longstanding regime propaganda that suggested the group had been destroyed in the late 80s, around the time of a months-long <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/20932-the-1988-massacre-in-iran\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">massacre<\/a> of 30,000 political prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 terror plot effectively revived the goal of that massacre, in that it sought to destroy the MEK\u2019s central leadership and its broader international support. A recent report on the details of the plot noted that the 500 grams of TATP explosive that had been provided to the would-be bombers were capable of creating a shock-wave in excess of 100 meters. The terrorist diplomat, who is the station chief of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in Vienna, has been stationed in Austria since August 2014. The two arrested terrorists are Amir Sadoni and Nassim Nomeni and are residents of Antwerp. Rudy Giuliani Issued a Statement on the Iranian Regime Terrorist Plot against FreeIran2018 Rally July 2, 2018 - Following the Belgian law enforcement\u2019s announcement of having discovered a Tehran-backed terrorist ring aiming to target Iranian dissidents during the Free Iran Gathering, which took place in Paris on June 30, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, lawyer to U.S. President Donald Trump, issued a statement, commending Belgian authorities for their efforts and condemning the Iranian regime for its sponsorship of terrorism across the globe. Giuliani was among the participants in the Free Iran Gathering, in which he delivered a speech in support of the Iranian people\u2019s uprising and the NCRI and PMOI\/MEK\u2019s efforts to establish democracy and freedom in Iran. Giuliani also met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the NCRI, and has been a long-time supporter of the Iranian Resistance. U.S. Softens Demand That Countries Stop All Iran Oil Imports The Trump administration is softening its earlier demand that countries like China, India and Turkey end all imports of Iranian oil by Nov. 4, as a top State Department official on Monday said the United States would allow reduced oil flows, in certain cases. \u201cWe are prepared to work with countries that are reducing their imports on a case-by-case basis,\u201d said Brian Hook, the department\u2019s director of policy and planning. His announcement was a delicate attempt at reassuring oil markets and allies that sanctions are not likely to hit them this fall \u2014 even if Iranian oil continues to flow around the world, as is likely the case. Protests to Water Salinity Spread To Other Cities Of Khuzestan Province In Iran Khorramshahr citizens came to the streets on Sunday, July 1, 2018, for the third consecutive day in protest to the water salinity crisis in the area. Following the uprisings, people in several other cities of Khuzestan province, including Bandar-e Emam Khomeyni, Abadan, Kut-e Abdollah and Ahvaz, also joined the protests and launched demonstrations. It has been reported that some protesters in the gatherings of Monday, July 2nd, in Ahvaz and Khorramshahr have been arrested. Shooting and Clashes by Iranian Agents with Protesting People Government forces clashed with protesting villagers in Zehuki on Monday afternoon, July 2, 2018, firing at them due to two barrels of gasoline inside a home in the Minab city, Hormozgan province, Iran. On Monday afternoon, government forces see two barrels of gasoline in a house in Zahuki village of Minab city in Hormozgan province and harass and attack the residents of the house. The people of the village came to help their fellow citizens and rushed their defense. However, the security forces, with the command of Iranian officials, immediately shoot at the protesting people with direct gunshots.\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"lL\" style=\"max-width:100%;width:853px;margin:5px;\"><\/div><\/p>\n<p>This potential for collateral damage underscores the perception of an increased threat to Western nationals by Iranian terrorists. The further details of the terror plot indicate that Tehran has grown particularly brazen in presenting those threats. Ordinarily, when bomb plots serve Iranian interests, they are channeled through the regime\u2019s militant proxies such as Hezbollah. But in this case, the mastermind for the plot was a high-ranking Iranian diplomat, the third counselor of the regime\u2019s embassy in Vienna.<\/p>\n<p>That diplomat, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iranian-diplomat-and-three-accomplices-on-trial-for-planned-bombing-of-a-massive-rally-in-paris\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Assadollah Assadi<\/a>, is now scheduled to begin his trial in Belgium on November 27. The recent upsurge in NCRI-organized events seems to be driven partially by the perceived significance of this trial, which is to be the first instance of an Iranian diplomat actually being prosecuted for terrorism. But participants in the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/alternative\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCRI<\/a> conferences and rallies continue to emphasize that this does not mean no other such diplomats have been implicated in the past.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Quite to the contrary, several lawmakers who spoke at last week\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-resistance\/live-report-iran-regimes-ongoing-crimes-against-humanity-time-for-europe-to-act\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">European video conference<\/a> and German rally urged their own governments to view the Assadi case as grounds for closing Iranian embassies and taking other measures to diplomatically isolate Iran over its well-established penchant for state terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>These recommendations will no doubt be repeated at Thursday\u2019s event, especially given that the previous conferences took place before new details of Assadi\u2019s conduct and background were released to the public. Last Friday, a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/iran-plot-france-int-idUSKBN26U28N\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters report<\/a> detailed how the former diplomat had attempted to escape accountability by openly threatening further terrorism by Iran-backed proxies who were supposedly waiting to see whether the Belgian government would \u201csupport them.\u201d And the following day, a report in Le Monde noted that Belgian authorities had confirmed the involvement of high-ranking Iranian government officials in the plot.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Iranian diplomat warned of retaliation over Belgian bomb plot trial, document shows <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fGDDxmEaR2\">https:\/\/t.co\/fGDDxmEaR2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Reuters Iran (@ReutersIran) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ReutersIran\/status\/1314637652575113217?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>For supporters of the MEK and NCRI, these reports surely lend more support to two often-repeated points: that Tehran freely uses terrorism as a form of statecraft, and that current Western policies toward the Iranian regime are doing little to discourage the continuation of such conduct.<\/p>\n<p>Assadi\u2019s threats reflect an expectation of \u201cimpunity,\u201d and this word has been invoked frequently at recent NCRI conferences. Speakers therein have cited a number of past incidents, including the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/human-rights\/20932-the-1988-massacre-in-iran\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1988 massacre<\/a> of political prisoners and more recent crackdowns on the nationwide uprisings, as having received too little attention from the international community. This, they say, has left Tehran with the impression that even bomb plots on European soil are unlikely to elicit a strong response.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Thursday\u2019s conference can be expected to make the case for a shift toward much more assertive policies by the United Kingdom and Europe as a whole, with the intention of holding the entire Iranian regime accountable for terrorism, right alongside the diplomatic agent who will go on trial six weeks later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, a number of British and Irish lawmakers will be taking part in an online conference intended to highlight the persistent threat of terrorism stemming from Iran.
