The board of directors of the Social Commission of the Majlis said in 2017 that the number of child laborers in Iran, according to most unofficial estimates, was between 3 and 7 million.<\/p>\n<p>Many children in Iran are forced to drop out of school due to poverty and the economic crisis and enter the labor market to provide for themselves and their families. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 43,417, nearly a fourth of the actual figure. \u201cWe are not making decisions between good and better. We are not even making decisions between good and bad, or bad and worse. Our decisions are based on the options of worse and the worst,\u201d said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Tuesday. \u201cThe continuation of the status quo and the policy of kicking the can down the road and appeasement that some call for will lead to a prolonging of this epidemic, and a lengthening of its economic impacts with even more severity. There is no single short-term solution,\u201d he said in a state TV interview. UN Adopts 67th Resolution on Human Rights Abuses in Iran The United Nations General Assembly adopted on Wednesday a resolution condemning the Iranian regime\u2019s human rights abuses. Passed with 79 affirmative votes, this is the 67th UN resolution on the human rights situation in Iran since the mullahs rose to power in 1979. The resolution raises concern at the \u201calarmingly high frequency of the imposition and carrying-out of the death penalty\u201d in Iran. These include executions that were undertaken against persons on the basis of forced confessions, execution of minors, and executions carried out for crimes that \u201cdo not qualify as the most serious crimes,\u201d the resolution warns. The UN resolution stresses that that the regime is in violation of its international obligations and in breach of international covenants, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Convention on the Rights of the Child. The resolution also raises alarm at the widespread and systematic use of arbitrary arrests and detention, the use of torture to extract confessions, such as in the case of wrestling champion Navid Afkari, executed in September. There is also mention of suspicious deaths in custody, as well as long-standing violations involving the Iranian judiciary and security agencies, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions.
