Maryam Rajavi was the keynote speaker of the event. From all indications, the ruling theocracy is at the point of being overthrown. We saw during the November 2019 uprising that the protests suddenly erupted in 900 locations across the country. This created a brilliant model for the great uprising that will overthrow the regime. The uprisings that spanned from December 2017 and January 2018 to November 2019 and January 2020 were not about reforming the regime. Rather, these uprisings sought to overthrow the clerics. In the midst of these uprisings, the young generation delivered the thunderous chants of “Death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the supreme Leader.” “We don't want the Shah or the supreme Leader, we don't want a choice between bad and worse.” This generation chants “Our enemy is right here. But yet again it failed.

The Treadstone 71 report comes in the wake of the trial of Iran’s incarcerated diplomat-terrorist, Assadollah Assadi, and his three accomplices, in Belgium. Assadi and his operatives, Amir Sadouni his wife Nasmieh Naami, and Mehrdad Arefani, tried to bomb the “Free Iran” gathering in Paris in 2018. But all were arrested.

During the second session of their trial on December 3, in Antwerp Belgium, the regime’s terrorist, Arefani, who pretended for years of being an atheist poet, tried to deny his connection with Assadi, despite undeniable evidence. The jail time requested for the three other terrorists (Assadi’s hired accomplices) were 18 years for Amir Saadouni and Nasimeh Naami, and 15 years for Mehrdad Arefani. The prosecutors also requested the latter three to be stripped of their Belgian citizenships. The most important target in this foiled bomb plot was Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, and Saadouni and Naami were told to install the bomb as close as possible to her, the prosecutors emphasized. All the collected evidence indicate Assadi commanded this bombing operation, the prosecutors highlighted, adding he should be condemned for our own security. Assadi played the main role in the attack targeting the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the prosecutors continued. Describing how Assadi was arrested in Germany, the prosecutors underscored he enjoys no diplomatic immunity. The plot for mass killing people is the reason why we are resorting to international law to deny him of diplomatic immunity. The Iranian regime not permitting Assadi to attend the first session of this trial, cooperate and answer questions indicates that Tehran was behind this terrorist operation. Since Assadi was working with the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), one cannot claim this operation was a one-man initiative and the entire regime was involved in this plot. Saadouni began cooperating with the MOIS back in 2004 for money and the pressure placed on his family. Saadouni and Naami significantly increased their ties with the MOIS from 2007 onward. From 2015 the couple is linked with Assadi under the alias “Daniel” and they were in constant contact with him until their arrest on June 30, 2018. The two had constantly travelled to Iran during this period and had met with Assadi in various countries such as Germany, Italy and Austria, receiving money for information. The places of their meetings were always specified by Assadi. Naami was fully trained on how to use the bomb, according to the prosecutors. Assadi went back to Iran several times during his effort to prepare all the necessities for this operation. Strong evidence in this regard was found in his vehicle and mobile phone indicating he went back to Iran once a month facilitating his preparations for the 2018 plot. On March 19, 2018, Naami and Saadouni began exchanging phone calls and emails with Assadi. Their last meeting was on June 28 at a pizzeria in Luxembourg where Naami received the bomb, a new SIM card and 18,000 euros, placing them all in her bag and receiving written training on how to use the bomb. Based on the indictment Mehrdad Arefani began cooperating with and was recruited by the MOIS when he was arrested in Iran back in 1981. Arefani was in constant contact with Assadi, obtaining footages and using equipment to gather information about the MEK for the MOIS. Arefani met with Assadi in various countries and received money from him. Arefani was missioned to control Naami and Saadouni properly carrying out the bomb plot at the scene. Assadi was waiting for Arefani to provide reports and control the scene through him. In the 1980s, Ruhollah Khomeini, the regime’s then-Supreme Leader, ordered his torturers not to fast during the holy month of Ramadan, to be able to freely torture dissidents and MEK members.

Since the regime was not able to carry out a terrorist operation against the opposition, it turned to cyberterrorism, which according to Treadstone 71 “highly likely violated Twitter policies such as the Platform manipulation and spam policy, the Impersonation policy, and the Synthetic and manipulated media policy.”

The regime uses all the means to achieve its malign goal. This is the same regime which imposed an internet blackout during the November 2019 uprising to massacre protesters but uses social media to demonize its opposition.

Assadi also used his diplomatic privileges to transfer a bomb to Europe using a commercial flight, then handed it over to other terrorists.

The report, and the regime’s attempts to target the Iranian Resistance, also portrays the regime’s fear of its viable alternative, which the mullahs blame for the November uprising which rattled the regime’s foundation.

So, it is time for the international community to act firmly. The regime’s diplomatic missions and so-called cultural and religious centers must be shut down.
