On Sunday, January 3, 2021, hundreds of retirees staged a nationwide protest in different Iranian cities. The protest began at 10:00 am and continued until 1:00 pm in 22 Iranian cities, including in Tehran, Kermanshah, Tabriz, Khorramabad, Arak, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, Qazvin, Hamedan, Rasht, Sanandaj, Shush, Karaj, Neyshabur, Yazd, Bojnourd, and Shushtar. The retirees protested against the discrepancy between their benefits and those employed as well as the lack of parity between their wages and inflation and high prices, and having to endure intolerable hardships.<\/p>\n

In Karaj, the State Security Force prevented the retirees and taking picutres and videos.<\/p>\n

In Shush and Danial, in addition to the protest action in front of the Social Services Office, they also staged a protest march. The retirees\u2019 slogans included, \u201cHigh prices, inflation, a calamity for the people,\u201d \u201cIncompetent minister, resign, resign,\u201d and \u201cEnough of oppression and suppression, our plates are empty.\u201d One of the placards carried by the retirees said, \u201cRetirees have slipped to death from poverty line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 478 Cities Surpasses 196,500<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a>\u00a0announced on Sunday, January 3, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 478 cities had exceeded 196,500. The number of victims in Tehran is 48,191, Isfahan 12,185, Qom 7,675, East Azerbaijan 7,527, Mazandaran 7,512, Gilan 6,976, Fars 6,013, Alborz 5,140, Golestan 4,847, Hamedan 4,670, Kerman 4,328, Central Province 4,073, Yazd 3,472, Zanjan 2,065, Hormozgan 2,060, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari 1,545, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 1,419.<\/p>\n
