Tehran announced it has started enrichment of uranium at 20 percent at its Fordow nuclear site. On Monday, the regime\u2019s Revolutionary Guards (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/irgc-s-38-year-record-war-crackdown-exporting-terrorism-fundamentalist-and-advancing-the-nuclear-weapons-drive\/\" rel=\"noopener\">IRGC<\/a>) illegally seized a South Korean ship in the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The international community should take firm action since Tehran\u2019s ongoing belligerent activities have continued despite the Western powers\u2019 persistence on the appeasement policies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The regime has tried to blame the international community for not abiding by its 2015 nuclear with world powers, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Tehran also tried to accuse the South Korean ship of polluting the Persian Gulf.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Yet, the regime\u2019s state-run Vatan-e Emrooz daily, an outlet linked to the IRGC, on Monday, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vatanemrooz.ir\/newspaper\/page\/3116\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the regime\u2019s true intentions of these actions, which are part of its extortion campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cEnriching uranium at 20% was [the regime\u2019s] winning card in facing western governments. [Hassan] Rouhani\u2019s government, at the beginning of the nuclear talks in Geneva two years before the JCPOA, generously accepted to halt in exchange for the lifting of sanctions and the recognition of Iran&#8217;s right to enrichment, none of which was realized. Now, in such circumstances, this concession can again force the JCPOA signatories to honor their obligations under the terms of the JCPOA, and thus return the balance in the number of obligations and duties to the nuclear agreement. In other words, experts believe that the beginning of Iran&#8217;s 20% enrichment could increase the probability of lifting sanctions much more than before,\u201d Vatan-e Emrooz <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vatanemrooz.ir\/newspaper\/page\/3116\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_232692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-232692\" style=\"width: 797px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021\" class=\"wp-image-232692 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021.jpg\" alt=\"VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021\" width=\"797\" height=\"554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021.jpg 797w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021-768x534.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021-150x104.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/VatanEmruz-janurary5-2021-696x484.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 797px) 100vw, 797px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-232692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Iranian regime\u2019s state-run Vatan-e Emrooz daily<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The regime started breaching its commitments under the terms of the JCPOA in 2018. This nuclear extortion was to force the European signatories of this agreement to provide financial incentive packages to the regime, which was under the United States\u2019 sanctions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The U.S. withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, citing Iran\u2019s non-compliance with the deal and its breach of the \u201cJCPOA\u2019s spirit\u201d by spreading terrorism across the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The National Council of Resistance of Iran (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/alternative\/\" rel=\"noopener\">NCRI<\/a>), which has played a pivotal role in exposing the regime\u2019s nuclear activities, later revealed how the regime deceived the international community and continued its nuclear weapon program while signing the JCPOA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The European Union\u2019s surprising fidelity to the already-dead JCPOA has encouraged the regime to count on the EU\u2019s appeasement policy to continue its nuclear extortion and cite so-called \u201cexperts\u201d on how enriching uranium at 20% will result in an end to the sanctions.<br \/>\nSouth Korean Ship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThe seizure of this tanker in Persian Gulf waters sends a serious message to the South Korean government. A message that offers Seoul two options, either to choose to pay its long-standing debt to Tehran or (to compromise for the) security of its use of the Persian Gulf waterways in dealings with its Arab partners,\u201d wrote Vatan-e Emrooz,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">These words clearly confirm the regime\u2019s state-sponsored piracy and terrorism. Yet, the international community has failed so far to act decisively.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.sender.net\/forms\/dGYVLa\/view\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-219239 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1.png\" alt=\"Weekly-Signe-up-logo-1\" width=\"250\" height=\"83\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The regime in Tehran has used extortion to achieve its malign goals. The first case was Iran\u2019s hostage crisis in 1979 when the regime\u2019s forces stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran and took American staff hostage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Iran\u2019s diplomat-terrorist, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iranian-diplomat-and-three-accomplices-on-trial-for-planned-bombing-of-a-massive-rally-in-paris\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Assadollah Assadi<\/a>, was caught red-handed in 2018 attempting to bomb the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/free-iran-gathering-paris-2018\/\" rel=\"noopener\">NCRI\u2019s rally<\/a> in Paris, France.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Simultaneous with Assadi\u2019s trial on December 3 in Belgium, the regime announced it will hang Dr. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/ncri-statements\/iran-call-for-immediate-international-action-to-secure-the-release-of-ahmad-reza-jalali-and-to-prevent-his-execution\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ahmadreza Djalali<\/a>, an Iranian-Swedish academic who taught in Belgium. The regime\u2019s Foreign Minister, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-world\/26715-a-look-at-the-record-of-iran-regime-foreign-minister-javad-zarif\" rel=\"noopener\">Mohammad Javad Zarif<\/a>, explicitly called for a prisoner swap, underlining the regime\u2019s intention to use Djalali to put pressure on the Belgian government to free Assadi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">By seizing the South Korean ship and increasing its uranium enrichment level, the regime intends to exploit the political situation in the U.S. and put pressure on the international community to achieve its malign goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The European Union has long pursued the appeasement policy and provided the regime\u2019s with incentive packages, but it has only emboldened the regime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In fact, negotiation with Zarif, who was involved in the 2018 bombing plot in France as Assadi\u2019s superior, and who is involved in the regime\u2019s extortion policy, will encourage the regime to continue this path.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The international community, mainly the EU, should not succumb to the regime\u2019s extortion campaign.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Tehran\u2019s recent piracy, export of terrorism, and its systematic breach of the JCPOA are all punishable under international law.
